ok guys what is the easiest way to change my track on my 01 srx 700? i broke my front rear shock and it took out my 1-1/4 ripsaw :o|, now i am goin to put on my 1 inch with 192 studed track. my question is does the entire chain case have to come off or can o just remove the bearing in the case? any help???? thanx ...................jim

I just replaced my track and followed the directions on the tech page. Was not difficult and the directions are clear.
Took me about 3.5 hours to change.

the easiest way is to heat up the inside of the crank case with a torch. Careful just to heat the area holding the bearing inplace. Aluminum will expand quicker then the steel bearing. I'd heat the area up for about 1 minute or less. then get underneath and drive your axle torwards your crank case, it should then pop right out. But you may need to re-heat it again to put the bearing back in.

i have replaced tracks in 4 different yamahas...never ever did i need a torch!!!!that is not recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can use a very small amount of heat around the bottom bearing in the chain case and the bottom bearing will slide out very easily with a push on the drivers. Just make sure you remove the large snap ring first.I know this sounds crazy but many dealers use this method instead of removing the whole chain case. Right or wrong I have used this method many times when switching tracks for trail to deep powder and back again. Some feel that it is a quicker method of removing the drive axle than to remove the whole case. Just my two cents for what it's worth and to support the above post. I wondered how to switch a track several years ago and called a couple dealers to find out how and they both recomended the torch trick. That was before I found this site and saw the other method as well. Happy Trails TJE

thanks TJE...... The torch method really works, and its slick as shit, as long as you take the snap ring out. Which can be a pain in the ars some times.

Your welcome Styles, glad it went together well for you. I hear you on the snap ring. We were switching tracks allot a couple years ago when we were going out west and also riding the same sleds up north on the trails. The snap ring sucks to get at so I purchased an angled pair of pliers from snap-on that makes it a breeze. CHEERS TJE
