I recieved a lot of good ideas on that thread, its about 4 pages back. The update I have isnt a good one but I did find some things that wernt right.I pulled the carbs down again, paying atention to every detail. Thanks to my deteriorated eye sight I missed the fact that this sled was jetted different than stock.I talked to the po and he told me the guy he bought it from had it out west.It had 133.8 mains and 57 pilots.Once I figured this out I went and got new jets 45 pilots and 142.5 mains,i set the fuel screw at about 1 3/4.I thought "this is it for sure!!!"WRONG...It still runs real rough at the low end.Bad idle, some backfire when playing with the throttle. While up on the stand if I hold about half throttle and rev a little it will clear up and run good especially in the upper rpm range. Then when I idle it back down it will start running rough again after a few seconds and wont respond well to throttle. The color of the plugs is much better but still seem dry.I havnt taken it for a ride but something is still wrong. Any ideas??? thanks Al

Could a dead battery that is still connected have anything to do with it?will a coil from a 96 600 work for test purposes ?

Had my brothers artic 440 doing the same, found it was a weak stator. with no load on the stand it would run great and rev right up, try riding it and it would bog and backfire. 2 cents worth.

Every 2 cents counts.stator went out 2yrs ago, stopped dead in its tracks.i was gonna check it but I just found a bad lead on my multimeter.before someone asks, compression is at. 105 110 120. Not ideal but should still run good

I would be doing a leak down test, it that cylinder @ 105 wont hold compression your basically running a twin. Harmony in your engine is a good thing. That 105 cylinder might be like a lazy brother in law that showed up for christmas and never left.

Hey bluedres,u don't have any idea how close that brother-in-law analogy hits home!!!lol. Ill have to locate a leak down tester.its not a good time for me to do a top end.im going to take a look at the needle settings and maybe try opening up the fuel screw

it may not be a good time for a top end but those numbers are really telling you there is an issue. I would not trust that engine with those staggered numbers.
It may cost you more in the long run if you ride it that way Just my 2 cents
