Hey guys,

I currently have a 2001 SRX, which I absolutely love. Having said that, I made the mistake of riding my friend's 2009 Dragon 800 and fell in love with the rider forward positioning for the type of riding we do. I would love to stick with Yamaha, but I'm afraid the Phazer would feel terribly slow to me. I don't need anything with as much top end as the SRX. I am looking for something lightweight, quick, and nimble with a good suspension for under $4,000.

In my price range, I am limited to sleds in the 04-06 range. The two sleds I keep coming back to are the 04-06 Ski Doo Rev 600s or the 05-06 Polaris Fusion 600s. I heard the 03 Revs had o-ring issues but that was resolved in 04 and the 700 and 900 Fusions had a lot of engine issues, but the 600 is supposed to be bulletproof.

Any of you SRX riders have experience with these sleds, good or bad? I am also open to any other suggesstions.

Thank you,
Andrew

Its going to be tough getting an un-Yamaha biased opinion here. If it were me,Id probably go with a Rev before the Fusion. The Fusion chassis hasnt impressed me, but then again I havent logged in a whole day of riding one either. The Rev Chassis is pretty solid and handles well.
I think you could get into a 08 Nytro with updates that make it handle the way it should have, close to your price range.... and you will absolutely love the motor, I PROMISE YOU THAT!!

There will be bias wherever I post this question, but I was hoping to get some insight from people who are used to the SRX and get their thoughts and experiences on different rider forwards. I'm sure a few poeple on here have gone through this before. I hadn't given the Nytro much though, due to the size of the engine. I assumed it would be a hog on trail and not as nimble as I would like. I wish I could try one out, but there aren't many Yamahas up here in Maine.

I appreciate your opinion on the REV vs. Fusion chassis.

I went from a 02 Viper 700 shorty to a 09 Nytro xtx. Love it to pieces. Ya its a little heavy, and tippy on the trails but it rocks in the snow. Wifey has a 600 Switchback. Too small for me, just not enough there. I Had a 03 Rev 800, engine exploded at 3500 miles (Go figure) and was hard on gas and oil. I think I am done with two strokes, put 3000 miles on my Nytro already this year. Not one quart of oil. No worry about premium fuel. The torque, suspension and the 144 x 1 3/4 track is wonderful. And like my Viper, I like how it sounds.

Get an Apex. Set it up for your type of riding. Went from a well tuned and setup 02 Viper to an Attak/Apex. First ride was terrible. Did a little research and started setting it up for my style of riding. It now handles better in the stutters, twisties and lakes than the ole Viper did and its faster. Sounds better than the Viper did too. ;)!

I still have my 2000 SRX700 and ride it quite a bit, but night and day difference between it and my Arctic Cat XF800. The ride position is so much different and you can feel the difference in the suspensions for sure. All three of my sleds are all different to ride and all offer a slightly different rider position. All are fun and it is what you get used to.

fusions can be fixed as I have heard by ballancing the crank. there are many places that specialize in doing them.

wy not make your sled into what you want.
bar riser, 3in, with a little forwar
boss seat
expert, m10, rtx, mono skid in it
widen and install long travel front shocks
arrow or tuner skis, you will not know the sled, keep the fuel mileage and nice motor that you will miss with the other sleds.

Im with BETHEVIPER , make it what you want. If you got 4000 grand to spend you could make one hell of a sled

I really appreciate everyone's input. The SRX sold quicker than I imagined, considering it is almost March, but it allowed me to turn around and get a great deal on my new sled, which I just picked up.

I've owned 3 Yamahas and nothing else, so it hurts a little to jump ship, but I ended up with a 2005 Ski-Doo Adrenaline REV 800 h.o. with 3400 miles. It books for $3,900 and I paid $2,700...not bad considering I sold my 2001 SRX w/4,000 miles for $2,300. I will miss the SRX at times, but the MXZ will better suit the riding that we primarily do up here in Maine.

where in maine are you? if your within driving distance to topsham try woodys. they always have some used nytros there. maybe you dont want to buy through them but you can at least try on out.

MaineMan keep us posted on the pros/cons with that DOO as you go. Im currently looking at the same sled. Sold the Viper, after my Venom sells Im looking at that same DOO, and maybe a new Polaris 800 too....
