Picked up a Neglected Srx

Picked up this SUPER neglected 2000 srx as a summer project. It only has 1800 miles It was last run and used in 2002 or so and then left for dead in the guys yard uncovered. Motor Pipes and Carbs were junk.from water and mouse pee. Picked up a nice Low mileage motor and accessories from a smashed sled. I just spent the last day going threw the wiring harness to get all the chewed wires and rubbed threw spots fixed. Still needs a seat and some other parts but its going to be a nice low mileage sled when im done. Fastest thing I have ever driven. Its still got issues that need to be worked out but those will wait till summer.

In good shape with higher mileage I have seen them go for $2500ish. The suspension and body is awesome nothing loose or clapped out yet. Anything plastic or vinyl is either faded or junk. I tried to tape the seat together to ride it but the foam just falls apart.
Im gonna try to paint the belly pans,bumpers and some of the other plastic this spring until i find a good set of plastics
 
I just can't imagine spending that much money on something like that and just letting it go to hell. I can't even mow my lawn without washing the mower before I put it back in the garage. Hope everything works out for you. If you can source the parts at a good price you could really have a bargain there and resurrect a great machine in the process. Good luck !!
 
I pulled a 83 Vmax 540 out from behind a car garage after it had been sitting for almost 10 years, Paid 100 bucks for it. Funny thing was the owner said it quit and he had just gave up and parked it called it junk and said he rides a poo now. I put fresh gas in it, dug it out of about 3 ft of snow. Started it, drove it over the snow bank and loaded it on my trailer. The owner couldn't be leave it! lol My olny comment was " It's a Yamaha" I did put a lot of time in it and rode it a few times and man that ol girl would rip! sold it when I left Illinois for 500. ;)! Go to a fabric store spend 20 bucks and stretch it over the seat till you get something better.
You can find a seat and any other parts you need on here for a good price.

Its getting to that point now, Ill have it fixed then ride it for a while and then something stuipd will happen like the tail light not working headlight flashing, random codes, miss fires. The list goes on .
 
There was a 07 Apex Gt on craigslist for $3000 awhile ago that was as bad as that, it was parked in the woods and left for dead.
