Picked up 2 89l belts today, figured I'd give them a try, they were $25 cheaper per belt than 8dn belts. I took my sled for a ride with the 89l belt, seem that the belt lugs the motor more, makes it work. Sled seems to pull a hair harder with the 89l belt as well. Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on the belt life of an 89l vs an 8dn belt. Seems to me the 89l must be a softer belt, really seems to grab, sled seems more punchy...

Any input/opinions welcome.

Thanks

Yes, the 89L is a softer compound. You need to clutch the sled for a specific belt. Unless you want to tune your clutches run the belt that you are setup for. The 8DN is a very hard durable belt but requires more side pressure. Personally I don't feel the 89L is as durable as the 8DN, but if you are setup for an 89L, run it.

The 8DN is rock hard and will last forever. My mountain max had a new 8DN on it when I bought it and no spare, so I run a carlisle ultimax xs with the 8DN as a spare. It hooks up great and doesn't squeal like the yamaha belt.

The 89l belt vs the 8dn I had on it caused me to lose approx 100 maybe 200 rpm max, sled was running 8500-8600ish at WOT with 8dn, with the 89l it is running right at 8400ish. Sled seems to run great, pulls hard, so I think I'll leave the clutching alone for now.
