Recoil broke over the weekend and took it off to restring it and accidentally had the spring come out. After looking like an emo dude all over my arms i wrestled it on, got the string in the sucker, but now the innermost tab won't line up with the spool. Any tips on how to restring and realign the spring?

Also i figured out that a 2002 viper recoil is huge compared to mine and will not fit onto my sled.. :o|

Leave 4" out of the spool thru the notch ,just put the spool in and turn it backwards, after it engages, 4 1/2 turns counterclockwise, put the rope thru the hole, tie knot or clamp, install recoil. This for my 01 sxr 700, I think that yours should be the same.

So that's how they work

What happened was that, i had to put in the spring so many times that it lost it's correct bend so the notch on the spool couldn't align properly. Took it into a shop and let them deal with it. I'll remember this when i have to do it on a different occasion.

So to wrap up this thread, it ended up costing me roughly 33 dollars USD to have a former dealership reinsert the spring into the recoil and string it up for me with brand new rope. Not bad of i price i say!
