Hard Starting..but only when hot?

SRX700. All stock jetting. Starts on the coldest of days. Runs fine. Only problem is it's hard to start once hot. Ride hard for 1+ hour...stop for a break. It's difficult to re-start. Starts eventually...but it's not a 1-5 pull endeavor. MANY pulls to get it going..too many as far as I'm concerned.

Any ideas?

What year SRX? Is the sled stock and engine sound with reasonable miles?
Clean the carbs, paying extra attention to the idle/pilot and choke circuits.
Alot of these Yamahas start "hard" when warm/hot, just crack the throttle a bit while you're pulling and they usually fire right up if your carbs and engine are good otherwise. Practice with how far to crack the throttle to see what works best and you'll be off in no time.

learn to open the gas with your left thumb about a 1/4" or so, and pull with your right, will start first pull once warm....once you get the hang of it.

I do that and sometimes it takes 2 pulls. Not sure why flat slides give such a problem starting these motors. Round slides are so much easier to start.

Any theories, Gents?

Proven fact that round slides seal alot better than flat slides, harder to pull up and and down though. Depending on jetting round slides can give you grief as well.

Agreed on cracking the throttle a bit when warm. I had the exact same problem when mine was new to me. Crack the throttle a bit, starts first pull when warm.

My SX is the same way. I always crack throttle with right hand and pull cord with my left though. Just takes a little practice to get the left arm in shape.

If ya'll want to be lazy and sit on the sled, you can crack the throttle with your left hand, and pull with your right. Just don't let the pull rope wear slots in your pretty plastic cowling, or fuel tank for that matter.

And if you want to get real lazy..Get Electric start put in, no worries of rope wearing anything.. I am lazy, its in all my sleds..lol..
