So I have a 97 SX700 last was last rode ( started ) in november of 2010, it went in the shop for some work on the skid, new track, bearings for clutch etc, when I picked it up it started right up, started up when I got it home, took it for a 30 minute ride then went back home again, I let it sit for about 30 minutes, then tried to start, and nothing, wouldn't barely even fire at all, like there was no fuel, but there is 1/2 tank in it.. What do you guys think for some quick checking? maybe dust or something in the tank or a clogged fuel filter?

Its just weird it ran great, but now nothing :(

Check the magnets on your flywheel, there is a little hole in top of recoil, pull it over very slowly, you should see three magnets as you pull it slowly. If there is any rust on them, take off the silencer, remove recoil, and sand the magnets until shiny, then blow out the dust, and then LIGHTLY lube area with some WD-40 or similar before putting back together. My machine did this a couple months back, ran great, then we stopped on the trail to get some food, came back out and machine didn't start. Got it home, MrViper700 here on this site recommended this fix, I did it and machine fired up immediately. Not saying this is the fix, just a possibility.

thanks man will try that.. Also what is the stock heat range plug for this, or what do ppl recommend?

and is there a sx700 diagram, for the motor, clutch etc ppl use for assembly?

Should mention, the hole you're looking for is on top of the engine case that the recoil bolts to, not on top of the recoil itself. Plugs are a BR9ES.

Yup!! Just looked at it, little square hole in the top of the case, behind the recoil.. ( is that the stator? ) 2 of the three magnets from what I can see are pretty bad, with heavy rust, the other one is just a few blotches of rust on it.. So yes I guess I will have to look into that as well.. Is there a How to on here? Honestly , Im not tech saavy, but once I know how to do it I'm fine.. Its more so the fact I am nervous about F'n something up if I just dive into it without knowing

Threw in some new plugs fresh oil and antifreeze and some sea foam in the gas .. Went for a quick 20 minute ride again, came back, tried to start it and nothing again.. Im sure in an hour or so It will fire right up again.. The Stator is $325 locally, so Im hoping its not that.. If it was fuel , wouldn't it spit or sputter if something was plugged up< ( carbs, filter etc ) ?

check for wire rub thru under the pipes in the belly pan. the wires run under the motor....very common problem with that sled!

I would clean the magnets first before anything. Take off the silencer, unbolt the recoil and have at it. Only thing that sucks, is that its a tight fit to get fingers in for the sanding. Good luck!

wires that run under the motor to the headlight, very simple to check.. always start at the simplest first then move on to the next if you dont solve the problem! they lie on the bottem of the pan and are known for ware thrus!
