I'm sure this has been asked before but here goes. I recently bought a 2001 sxr 700 and the guy was running Maxima Tundra R oil in it. I haven't found any local dealers that sell it, is it ok to switch to another synthetic if I make sure its almost out of oil or syphon it out. Thanks

Id run Yamalube 2-S in it. Its a semi-synthetic and its all that sled needs for oil.
You can run any oil you want in it, but I have always prefered OEM oil. Yamalube doesnt smell as bad as some other oils. I run it in all my 2-cycle lawn equipment and it doesnt smell bad, smoke or burn my eyes. Doo's XPS oil is terrible. I was riding behind a Doo the other day and I had to open up my faceshield a bit because my eyes were burning and tearing up. My brother runs Amsoil Interceptor in his 440 XCR and its not much better. It doesnt smell as bad as XPS but it has made his sled smoke a lot more. Your sled will also use oil faster with Amsoil because its a thinner oil.
Yamalube 2-S isnt at all expensive. I used to pay $17 for a gallon of it. Dont bother spending the extra money for 2-R unless you run premix. 2-R and 2-S are pretty much the same, 2-R is formulated to be used as a premix oil whereas 2-S is meant for oil-injection.
