I see when I look at the fiche at parts like cylinders, pistons, rings, stators or CDI..the part numbers are usually the same, but there are 2 choices: there is the 8CH and 8DG prior to the numbers..also the 8CH part # has the symbol next to the product description (8CH5) and the 8DG part # has the symbol next to the product description (8EA3).Can someone explain why it is like this.
So for example,if I have 8CH00 marked on 2 of my used cylinders here, then I must look for another cylinder with the stamp 8CH00.Then I must order my pistons, rings, etc with the 8CH5 description and not the 8EA3.
I would think all the parts are interchangable..but the 8EA3 cylinders as an example is lower in cost.

SO can somebody explain this to me please, would like to know.I remember when I rebuilt my SXR600 motor, the jugs were stamped 8DG on them,so I ordered pistons, rings, etc with the 8DG pre fix which uses the 8EA3 description.Maybe this will clear things for other members when they order their parts.

Thanks guys.

8CH refers to the 700's.
8DG refers to the 600's.

same parts basically between the two sleds besides the obvious, so yamaha uses the same microfishe for both sleds as a money saving tool.

I gathered the parts are basically interchangeable from 600 to 700 parts.I know cases and cranks are identical.Only different parts will be CD! and stator perhaps..Of course the cylinders and pistons are different on a 700..

Blue I ran into the same scenario as I am trying to change my single beam SxR into a daul beam Sxr('00 to'01) and found the same thing for the rotor or flywheel and stator along with the cdi... and the windshield...
