What is all needed to upgrade and is it worth the hassle and or money?
have you tried getting a new bulb ? they have 100 watt bulbs out there ,that are extremly bright for that sled, really made a diff. in my 97. made by blume industries i believe. If you do go with somthin like that you may want to put a LED tailight in also!

headlight, pod, windshield, and hid 35watt kit, and battery will get you there the easiest.
if you run the 100w bulb you might want to run a led taillight. it works but not as good.

I see it is a 97, you will need both gauges as well to make it look right.

Agree with BETHEVIPER . I just did this to mine this year and love it. I however went with the 35 watt piaa bulbs and like them. Blue tint took a little getting used to but really happy with the light. I put a rear led tailight in and led gauge lights just to be safe. I did have stator issues but wasnt because of lights was because of other issues. Good luck looks way better and much broader light

whats the battery needed for? Will the stock stator have enough if I go with the dual bulbs or can I update the bulb of the single stock 97 set up? I have a heated shield, and always keep my handle bar heaters on full blast due to poor circulation in my hands.
I thought I would need the hi output stator of the 2001 and newer models, so my question is can I run the 97 stator on the 2001 dual bulb set up and not kill my stator? Thanks for the info so far.

the battery is for the HID. The HID needs it to start up. When you got to a dual headlight setup on a 97-00 you should not use anything over 35 watts. So you don't kill the stator. You can also use LED taillights and dash lights to help reduce the load to the stator.
