Opened the mail yesterday to find a little suprise for our city office. we were billed $50 for removing an inch of snow from our 40 foot sidewalk. Wife called the city to apologize and let them know we were in a hospital with the daughter who was kept for 3 days with massive pneumonia. We werent even aware it snowed back in our hometown. We explained we had doctor slips. And when you have a child that ill yourr not really thinking about checking thr weather reports. We always shovel during and aftrr sniw. As well as my mothers. Wifes grandmother. And elderly neighbors house. They said sorry theres nothing they can do. Once a ticket has been issued theres nothing that they could possibly do about it. Would not be fair the mayor said if we got out of it but others had to pay. WOW!

WOW is right!!!
I'm in Wisconsin too. What city?
There are a few things that I TRULY take personally except something involving my kids. I would be inclined to let it go to court just on principal.

doesn't surprise me, I got an alternate side snow removal parking ticket once in the middle of march when there wasn't a flake of snow on the ground

Same thing here in Waunakee, I've never gotten a ticket, I park in the driveway. Anyway, a couple of my friends have gotten them, funny thing is, there was no snow on the ground and temps in the 40s-50s... Guess they gotta fill their quota...

Just for one second there you guys made me feel better about living in NY.. Thank you . LOL !!!!!!

In a case like that I would have my day in court. The judges are saine practical people and would see the obsurdity in that ticket/fine. If everyone just pays these fines the issuers start to loose touch with reality.

wow, that also is a "wicked pissah" as we say up here. I have a lot of bitches about my state but at least the only one I trouble here over snow removal is myself. fight it KK, if it's worth your time of course, which they're probably betting it's not.

Absolutely,if you can afford the time go to court and explain your case to a judge. If they have any common sence at all this will be thrown out and the city council made to look completely foolish for not taking care of this before hand.

Probably not worth the fight..my guess is the judge will say the same thing, that it is not fair to others if they let yours go. They have to be non biased with issues like this and the ticket has already been recorded. Sucks for sure, especially considering your situation at the time. Hope she's doing ok now ;)!

I live in a Condominium association subdivision inside the city limits, which means all the owners in the sub collectively own all the common areas like the roads, storm water retention lot,etc..... We have to pay a private company to plow our streets and pay for any maintenance to the roads and such, but my neighbor just got a parking ticket for parking on the street between hours of 2-4 am..... City ordinance !! kind of like getting a parking ticket in your own driveway :o| :o| Apparently we pay them to patrol our streets, soooooo #$%&*

The Judge is the main ruler... Just like a cop that writes a ticket and the judge either makes you pay the ticket or throws it out.
