I'm looking to buy an older phazer or phazer II, preferably a mountain lite. I'm curious to know what year yamaha started making the phazer, phazer II and when did they start the mountain lite ones? Did the first phazers have the pogo front shocks? Any other info on the 80's 90's phazers would be great, thanks!!

what year yamaha started making the phazer - 1984
phazer II - 1990
and when did they start the mountain lite ones? - Not entirely sure, but I believe 1991 with the ST models, 136" track. Not sure if they were called mountain lite at that time, so you may want to search for both "phazer II mountain lite" and "phazer II ST" models.

I prefer the Phazer II's due to the wider ski stance and improved suspensions, but I've had fun on my neighbors early Phazer as well. A lot of these sleds have been well used, especially the earlier ones since they have been around so long. Look at as many as you can to get an idea of those in better condition and those in worse condition, and make your decision accordingly based on your budget. If you stick to the ST/mountain versions, you may not have as many choices to pick from, so your decision might be easier.
