Anyone know anything about these small suitcase style generators like the EF1000? My bud has one and the govenor isn't working right on it,I suspect it's probably gummed up because when I drained the oil out,and I use that term loosely (oil) ,it was pretty much the consistancy of molasses.I filled it up with new oil and we used it for a week at his camp but it still won't compensate for the load put on it so I told him I'd see if I could do something with it.I drained the oil again and filled the base with furnace oil hoping that might loosen any sludge around the govenor,we'll see.Anyone have any other tips that might help short of taking the thing conpletely apart?I'm really not equiped to do that,it's been a lot of years since I've had a small 4 stroke engine apart lol.

If it's anything like most late model small gas engines - they run them so lean that any obstruction in fuel delivery will cause all kinds of issues including no power under load. Maybe a restriction in the carb is making it seem like a govenor problem.
I have had to drill out main jets just to make them run right. Just a thought.

I agree with snomofo on this one. Could be carb related. If I was working on it I would pull the shroud off to get access to the carb. Are the springs for the govenor and throttle linkages hooked up? When you move the govenor arm on the case does it move the butterfly valve on the carb.? If the arm is not tight on the govenor shaft it wont work correctly. Dump some Marvel Mystery oil in with the engine oil, that should loosen any crud up in there. Next, check the carb out. I think those are Walbros or similar carbs on those. Even a slight bit of crap on that main jet will cause problems. Also, bad or improperly seated orings on the jet needle will wreak havoc with them running right.

I've had the carb off a couple of times to clean it out and noticed the butterflys weren't working very smoothly so I freed them up but it still isn't working right.Hoping the furnace oil in the base will loosen up any crud ,I'll drain it a few days and see how it looks, fill it back up with oil and try it again. If it still wont work my bud may be looking for a new carb for this. It's an older generator but usually works like a top but lately his nephew has been using it and any TLC it used to see has gone out the window.
