I Came Accross An Srx Engine That I Want To Rebuld For My 2001.
Questions:
Where Is The Best Place To Send The Crank For A Rebuild?
Should I Buy New Cylinders Of Have These Replated?
Am I Better Off With Stock Pistons Or Aftermarket?
My Stocker Has 8000 Miles On It With Just A Ring Change At About 5000. I Am Concerned That The Crank Bearings Might Fail. I Plan On Taking Htis Sled To Quebec Next Season And I Want To Make Sure It Will Take A 1500 Mile Pounding Without Issue.

I havent dealt with them myself but from what I have read on here If/when I need crank work done I will be contacting Jeff @ Midwest crank, He/they did all the re-works on the 1998-99 srx cranks in the surrounding 5-7 states if I remeber correctly. Cylinders...depends on what yours look like. Pistons...up to you, I personally would stick with OEM. If you do go with aftermarket make sure they are a good aftermarket company (not a "drop forged" el crapo) and with any aftermarket I have read you need to let them fully warm up or your tempting fate with a cold sieze (piston swells faster than cylinder...SQUEAKKKK)

I had a buddy with a sxr with only a top end, at 20000 km I wouldn't worry about crank bearings if there oem yamaha. But then again that was a sxr not a a srx

Being as this is an unknown motor to you I would say worth the money to get it checked out. You said 8k on yours with top end only. Any idea of mileage on the motor your planning on re-building?

NO CLUE. it looks failry clean. I got it reasonable.. perhaps I should redo mine since I know it runs fine now and use the bought one for spare parts?

Does it have the parts to perform compression test? Supposed to be a runner? The crank is the biggest chunk of the re-build budget usually. Find a reputable crank shop. Find out what kind of $ to inspect and go from there. Heads/cylinders/pistons you can check yourself.

I like OEM pistons
Cylinders I would go the cheaper route unless you can find some nice used ones

Use Jeff @ Midwest crank like stated above for crank work. Nothing wrong with SPI aftermarket pistons. I would use OEM first but nothing wrong with the SPI's. They are afordable. I wouldn't replate the cylinders unless you need to.

Used Motor
Motor Looks Good Has About 128 Psi Cold Cranking Compression. Visual On The Exhaust And Intake Skirt Shows More Scratches Than My 8000 Mile Motor.
