Well couple of bad weeks have come and gone, had a couple on a rental sled bash into me and take out my left trailing arm and bent my running board. I fixed and straightened what i could to get another weekend out of it but now it seems my bent running board has a good size crack.
My thoughts are now (if possible) to pull the viper motor and install it into a 2000-2002 Venture along with the belly ban and hood. I am interested in if this is possible and if so what snags will i run into.

I hope the people that crashed into you had insurance to cover your sled!! What year of Venture are you thinking of doing this too.. I have a 99 Venture and have looked at doing that. It is possible.. The mounts and palces to bolt in a Viper motor are very similar if not the same. You would need to change wiring harness and cdi as well.. The clutch positions are the same I beleive once the motor is swapped. The battery, reverse linkage, and coolant locations are all the same.. I decided to leave the motor I have in the Venture because it is a 700 redhead. I just tried a Viper clutch on it and it made a world of difference. Triple pipes on that 700 redhead and she will go.. All in all it is possible and things are very similar with little modifications.. Ask away if you want more info or want help. I know both those sleds inside and out..

Like previously said you need to use the wiring harness. If you can see if somone close to you has a venture you can look at for mounts but I can tell you the viper er and ventures use the same starter so i think the front mounts are the same. The other thing to look at if somone close has it is the 2005 venture 700 as it is a viper motor in it(my parents have one of those) for measurements and such.

Fairley certain there was a few years had the same power valved motor.

There were some vipers that were 2 up from the factory, and called ventures. I saw one for sale recently. It really was just a 136" viper ( ext?) With the same 2 up seat as the ventures from say 1998+ on it. IIRC it was 2004 and 2005.

This is all great news to me then. Bacsicly I am trying to keep my viper alive, I have 19000 kms on it and I really want to see how long the motor will last with out tearing into it. I guess I need to look for a triple venture so it will have the basic set up already ( engine mounts, clutching and gearing)

In 2003 they only came in a 600 I think. In 2004 the venture had the viper treatment. In 2005 it went to the 4 stroke. It was just like the 121 vipers in '04 with DSC. There was one for sale local this winter that was cherry.

Hmmmmm....I think you are on to something here.....maybe I will keep my wife's viper now.....
How long is the track on the venture...
I could just long track the viper put a m10 136 or 144 under it with a 2 up seat wire hot grips up....bam 2 up sled now.....

Check out Super1c thread "pair of vipers go 144" Everything your talking about but he went with a single boss seat.

just buy the two up seat from a venture with the seat back as it has the wirering al included for the rear hand warmers. i had a two up seat off a venture on my 144 performance built viper for a few yrs while the kids were litlle. now that there on there own sleds i removed the two up seat and now back to the single seat. heres a pic of my viper with the two up venture seat

His sled was hit by someone on a rental sled, a two up seat wont fix his tunnel.

That's sweet I'll have to show the wife tonight she may like this ....then I could put it back in a year or two......

He stated making his wife's viper into a two up sled with a venture seat and back rest. All I was stating was its an easy thing to do as all the wiring is in the seat and the backrest and its simple to change back to a single seat. I didn't state changing the seat would fix the tunnel.

Sorry my mistake, thought you were replying to thread, didnt realize you were responding to 09 nytros post.

guys here in canada the venture with the viper motor was availible for 04 and 05. bought my dad a left over one in 09 new.

Well took the Viper out for one last ride on Friday, must say i will miss this sled either way. Bad news, i might not being doing the Vipenture. With in the last 15km's of our ride a new noise started coming from the engine, i know its on the pull cord side just not sure if its a crank bearing or not. If the motor is done i am going 4 stroke Venture for my next sled.

does any know if there is a way to check the crank with out tearing down the engine? or a thread to help me check this out?

you would have to pull the reed cage or the exh off to check the connecting rod bearings. i would hold the piston up and look at the connecting rod to the crank for play. you could have lost a piston skirt as well or wrist pin bearing.
