went to register my sled in NY and an error is coming back saying invalid vin
mine is a 98 srx 600 vin 8df-001211...whats up with it, and how do I resolve this...I read that some of the early sleds were snow checks and had different vins...

My 1998 SRX 600 VIN is 8DF0017xx, Which is only 9 characters as well. My registration doesnt have the - between 8df and the numbers. Maybe that was your problem?

in ny its 9 charecters 8ea is included, what part of ny? it can be a REAL PAIN IN THE BUTT AT THE DMV HERE WITH SLED REGGIES. snap a photo of the vin stamping on the side of the tunnel. then take a piece of paper put it over the vin trace it out buy rubbing a lead pencil or smthin else over the vin making it readible on the paper. take that down there an see what they say about that. it really depends what part of ny your at too.

Right on...it was the dash. But get this...before I tried that I called a Yamaha dealer...the vin did not come up on their system. Called Yamaha of America/USA...same story...Yamaha of Canada..no record...no one can find this sled!

I live in NC...trying to ride in western pa/ny. Got the PA registration done this morning by fax...no problem! NY...not so easy...tried online, and I can't register online because the sled isnt registered in the state where I live...we have no registration here in NC.
Any suggestions how to get it done...I'm coming up friday and wont be there til after DMV closes. What is the worst the fine could be for riding un registered?
Trying to go to PEAK N Peak saturday/sunday to the drag races they are having this weekend...hope this registration thing doesn't kill those plans.

I have no clue about PA or NY but here in MI all you need from MI is a MI trail sticker and what ever you need to be legal in your home state. Did you check out NY/PA DMV websites?

Often times when you register a vehicle in a second state it voids the first? Maybe they guys riding that area can chime in?

ouch is right!!! $20 for PA. NY is like $45 if you join a club...went ahead and joined...rather the $ go to trails than the state!

In the exemptions it talks about "participating in competative events" and "registered in neighboring state and riding along border" From the other thread about the races your talking about that may cover you in the "competion events". I have no idea if its any where hear a border. Did you catch the part about carrying your registration and PROOF OF INSURANCE.......Is your sled insured? What I have learned is I wont be sledding in NY anytime soon....Not that I had any plans anyways.

riding in ny is awsome, its called lake effect and we get slammed. yes its pricey but we have some of the hardest working individuals keeping our trails open, safe , flat and wide. to insure both my trail sleds is less than $100.00 for 12 months thats 6 hrs seat time in fuel on my vmax4, well worth it. tnc110- im not sure about snow fall totals for peak and peek or that area at all. one thing i do know is from tug hill to old fordge is gonna be MINT for the next couple weeks for sure. check it out. im not telling you to ride dirty but it can be done safely time of day/ location the trail system is vast here. more then half of all registation money including the dmv regisation money goes to the trail systems here its a really pretty sweet system.

Since Devil is from Mancelona (the snow belt of the L.P.), I'd guess is he knows what lake affect snow is.

Between registration, insurance and TMA it costs me about $200 to make my sled legal in VT and i'm a resident. Insurance is only $70.
Seems pretty late in the season to be putting new stickers on a sled! Hope you have time left to enjoy it.

Link to Blackedout96 part out thread. Windy is listed for $20(not sure if this is same windy with trail sticker or not) He is in Edwardsburg mi. Well worth a detour if not already on your route up here to save $25 and have a windy to boot. I thought about buying my self as I buy 2 stickers a year. 1 for singlebulb windy and 1 for dual bulb windy. When the GF is riding her 00SxR just means I have to ride 00 or 01 SRX. If hes already sold it maybe throw a wanted add up here or on Clist along your route? Can change a windy in about 2 minutes!
LAKE EFFECT? Um...yeah I think I got that one covered. Checked last week 141.4 total thus far. I have lived mancelona/kalkaska since 1988. If you have rode trail 747 in the last 6 years you have seen my house and didnt realize it. I have 10 acres with pole barn out between trails 76/679 since 1994. Some people think I am NUTS for actually LOVING snow! Seems I fit right in around here.

I am a locator for U.S.I.C.(used to be SM&P) We work STOOOPID (75-80 hrs PER WEEK) all summer. Snow flies and I am on call for emergencies every other week and me an old MARVIN (unemployment) get to be the best of buddies while I sled/groom.
