im in the market for a 700. ive always wanted an srx 700. i see alot of 03 04 vipers going for pretty cheap. what are the main differances? what are the best years for srx? i rode my sxr 600 this year and loved it, my first trail sled over 1993 so it was a HUGE upgrade for me. been riding old iron my whole life so to me its like getting a 2014. should i hold out and wait for that srx to come along or snatch up a viper? :yam:

I've had two sxrs one viper and on my 3rd srx. I just traded an 02 viper for an 01 srx with lil bit of work done to it. I personally love my srxs. Got an m10 ready to drop in. Love my triple triples

do you plan to stay stock or add stuff? Personally, if I were going to make it go fast I would get a viper. If you want stock and still be pretty damn awesome then the SRX is the answer.

just stay all stock besides clutching maybe maybe breather box mod i dont know that much about either sled ive always wanted an srx though. this is my first year with a tripple and i really like it sxr 600. i know i could find either sled around here for a real reasonable price and the time to buy is now.

hit the nail square on the head with no glancing blows or bloody knuckles

heres the breakdown as I see it.

Stock:

any year SRX your looking in the 140 hp range
98-99 slightly less HP (mostly a clutching rpm difference) lower watt stator, single bulb headlight, less sophisticated cdi
2000-02 slightly better HP. much better dual headlight, 3D timing
all of them sip gas

stock Viper:
120ish Hp
good on gas, need to up the needle due to the hot midrange timing. also due to the aforementioned an opticool head gasket and srx rear cooler are a good idea.

Modified SRX: your only real gain (besides clutching for either sled) is porting. Yamaha flat out got this sled right.

Modified Viper: just triple pipes bring you up in the 150hp range. fuel mileage suffers though. Stock SRX's are nothing more than objects in your mirrors. Add comparable porting and ported SRX's are in your mirrors.

a stock 2002 srx is probably gonna do the trick. ive always wanted one, thanks for the input guys
