I did a search but couldnt come up with anything. Because of the price of a new boss highrise seat for a viper is like $500.00......i'm wondering if anyone has toyed with the idea of putting like a polaris or cat or doo gas tank on the viper and used one of there seats with a cover on it ? Seems like it could work.... Without having one of there seats its hard to figure out if it would work. Any suggestions or ideas ?

Seems like you would have more into it with a gas tank and a seat then you would if you just get a boss seat..plus they fit great and look good to boot..

Gas tanks are cheap.....very cheap to be honest. I refuse to pay $500 for a seat. I agree that they look awesome but i can probably save at least a couple hundred bucks by swapping gas tank with different seat. I think the polaris edge gas tank would be a good doner but i was just curious if anyone on here had explored that road.

i've toyed with the idea of using a polaris iq tank off a carbed model to mount on the viper with the newer style iq chassis seats or dragon models

We have 4 sleds with Boss seats. They are really worth the cost. But, another alternative might be a snowstuff seat. http://www.amazon.com/Stuff-Lightweight-Snowmobile-Seat-950-100/dp/B0041Q222S

Not doubting they are worth it. I just refuse to spend $500.00 on a seat. Never heard of the sno stuff seat. Wonder if they are brand or model specific ? Seems like they should be to sit right on a tank
You could always make your own seat. That's what I ended up doing. If you search the site there have been a few others that have done the same. Some with better results than others.

Or a riser. I have seat risers on my vipers and I think they are more than sufficient. I ditchbang and trail ride mine... Rather hard at that...

Yea, def dont want to modify the stock seat. No offense but i dont like the look of the seat wedges at all. I was looking at the sled last night and the edge gas tank is the closest fit and i'm sure it "could" work but the problem is the trim pieces that the gas tank butts up to in the front. It would take some trimming and im not into hacking and slashing. I want the factory look. There was a guy on here that acutally did a motocross yz 125 seat on a viper but i cant find it.....The polaris shorty pro x seat is an option with a seat cover but i hate the hump at the back. The cat m seriest shorty is an option too but that would require some trimming in the front to get it to sit right against the viper gas tank. My latest idea is leaving the stock gas tank on and modifying an xp gas tank and seat to fit. I think it could def be done. The boss seats look awesome but i'm just not willing to spend $500.00 for one. I would pay $400 but it seems the boss seats for the viper are $100 more then the other ones. Go figure

That one actually is a very nice home built one. My blue ER however does have an excell seat riser on it. JMO I think it looks good compared to the ones I've seen for f-cats and the like...

You could always put up a classified and see. Some guys sell them for that price and less...

i have a phazer seat for sale in the classifieds, I have seen many make a stand for them and attach the front to a bracket that sets over the fuel filler. Saw one once that even used shocks to hold the back up for that extra hard landing, kind of like the old HX seadoos

I made a new seat out of an rx1 seat. It was a lot of cutting and fitting but in the end it turned out great. There are a few areas where the contact glue didn't stick well but other than that it came out great.

there was a thread here from quite a while back where someone put an IQ seat and tank on a proaction and it looked really good. I had some posts in the thread, if I have some spare time I'll go back through my post history and try to find it but no promises.
edit: took a look and searching my previous posts only goes back to the last 500. it was further back than that. It might have been an old working log thread.

I think this is the thread I was thinking of but for some reason I thought there was one where the tank was used too http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=61177

Yea i saw that. Its all personal preference but i dont really like the look of the pro x shorty seat...maybe if the back knobby looking bulge was cut out of it. I ended up ordering a WRP mountain seat thats for a polaris edge. The polaris edge has a gas tank that is VERY similar to that of the vipers so I think I should be able to make it work. Plus, its all black with a red stripe so it will match my red viper perfect. By the way, i'm stretching my 121 red viper to a 144 with a skidoo summit skid. It will be all blacked out with the red accent from the hood. I'm thinking it should turn out pretty nice.

sounds cool. Be sure to post some pics as you go. we'd love to see how it all comes together.
Find an upholstery guys and give him a carcass from an old seat and have one made or get in touch with AmatoSRX and see if he can help.
Here's a thread about a seat I had made. It was a little costly, but my back thinks it was worth every penny.
