Picked up a 98 srx 600, has kickass air intake, bender can, bender secondary and???? I cleaned the carbs and noticed it had 155 mains. Had it up to 110mph...but it had more, ran out of room.
Plugs look pretty good, and it runs great. What kinda power can 155 mains support. Any guesses at what top speed should be?
Previous owner didn't know what all was done to the sled, but he said the man he bought it off of was using it for grass drags the last few years.

What pipes?
Are the carbs stock or bored.
My 600 runs 10000 rpm pipes with bored carbs and runs 127's in 1320 ft runs.
We figure hp is in the mid 170's
My main jets where 155's at air density of 103

stock pipes. Didnt take notice to the carbs. What air intake do you use?
Sxr700Bandit
Triple Piped 700 Triple
your new to you sled may have internal engine mods to support the 155 mains. Plus this would also explain why it runs so strong.
Is it maybe a 700 in 600 clothing??? Just a thought...

I cant see a stock piped 600 needing 155 mains. I would be looking into this engine a bit more!
Best thing with a new sled if its been modded and you dont know what you have is to do a few checks. Cc the heads and check the cylinders. That should shed a whole lot of light on things.

gotta be about 210hp and at least 135mph with jets of that size....

Definately worth getting a better idea of whats going on. If sled was set up strickly for grass drags when its 50-60+ degrees you get into trouble running it below freezing temp.

Ain't no 600 running 170 hp. No way unless you got boost,
Better re figure. Lol

I bet he's not too far off with that number. It's a prostocker not a trail sled.

If Constin ontario is "east coast" I must be in "east coast heights"..... From what I have read Jabber knows his yamaha's. If 170 can be made out of a 600 I am sure he knows how.

Technically it's an improver. Stock bored carbs! I dont want to get into a pissing match over numbers so here is what I do know 100%. The sled has been to Dyno tech but would not pull over 9100 rpm's at the time due to ignition problems. We made mid 160's with the hp curve dropping straight off at 9100. Note the pipes and engine are designed to run at 9800 rpm. 1/4 mile testing with this package resulted in mid to high teens for top speeds. After a few very frustrating changes the motor now spools up past 10000 quite willingly. We increased our 1/4 speeds to high 120's with a very happy high reving engine.
We increased our top speed by an easy 10 mph. How much power would it take to do this? I'm not 100% sure but I'm guessing we are now in the 170's for hp. We will find out! We have to engine Dyno a couple other sleds this season so we will likely bring it as well.

Well...back in the day...my 150+ hp improved stock 650 indy would not pull the kind of speeds Jabber is getting from his 600 so I have no problem believing the HP figures...Jabber does not need to defend his statements...numbers don't lie.
