My 12 year old daughter often rides with me on my 01 Venture. When she drives, it only takes maybe 20-30 minutes before she complains that her thumb hurts. My does too after an hour or so. Is there are way to make the return spring a bit softer?

I am having the same issue with my thumb lately also.Don't think there is not much to do except switch over to a motorcycle type of throttle...but you will lose your heated grip on that side..I have I think arthritis in my joints that is getting worse. Now starting to feel it more in my hands..

That spring has to be wrapped around a couple times maybe knock that pin out of the throttle plate were the cable goes and let the spring go once or twice and try that.
Pull
I bought a set of new carbs for my SRX a few years ago. They were some NOS stock from the Yamaha snow cross team back in the day.
The carbs were Bored out to 34.5mm. The point is that these carbs had the lightest pull I have ever seen with these tripples. I don't know what they changed but it is possible to have a real light pull. I also bought true long travel Ohlins for the SRX. These were set up by the Yamaha Sno Cross team also.

When I had my MXZ 670 I took the barrel springs out and cut them back just a little bit. That worked for those carbs. Now having the flat slides not to sure about the spring on the center shaft. Might be able to do one turn. Just word of caution. If you go too far the throttle might not return all the way for idle and tors to function correctly.

A few years ago I flipped my throttle block around. I pull the trigger with my fingers now. Works great for me.

You need a throttle return spring from a 93 exciter sx 570. Your return spring has a wire diamiter of 1.6 mm the exciter sx spring has a diamiter of 1.5 mm. The 94 nad 95 v-maxes also used this spring originally but most were replaced under a recall in 95 with the thicker spring. If you search and measure you may find a set of these carbs that werent updated and still has the original1.5 mm spring in them. good luck

01 venture 600 is the redhead tripple(mikuni 31mm)....older twin carbs may be a little tricky install.

You can try left hand throttle too. Give the right thumb a break. Proven tech

You just replace the throttle return spring from them, not the complet rack of carbs.

Why was there a recall? I wouldnt want to put faulty parts on a sled especially throttle related, with a young operator.mward said:You just replace the throttle return spring from them, not the complet rack of carbs.
