Hey All,
I recently purchased a 2002 Viper Sx. Had 9000 miles on it when I bought it so I decided to rip it apart and split the case, check crank bearings, new OEM pistons and rings, plugs, clean carbs, new bearing all around. I took the whole engine apart, everything went well, replaced all oil lines and fuel lines etc.
When i was finished I noticed I had 1 single bolt left. The engine runs well, started on about the 15th pull after everything was back together. The only thing I can think of was either this is a bolt from the bottom of the crank case or I just somehow managed to collect an extra bolt from the floor.
For those of you who have built your own engines, do you recognize this bolt? I'm a perfectionist and this bolt is driving me crazy.

Water pump cover bolt.

Just checked, it's not that. It's a 12mm bolt, theirs only 1 12mm bolt on the water pump cover and it's definitely on there. The rest are 10mm.

Motor mount bolt is right. Just looked back of engine under the carbs. Stupid me, hopefully I can get that in there without taking the engine out too far. I bought an aftermarket primary puller and it bent like a pigtail in my crank. Lucky for me it still popped the clutch off so I was able to cut it out without damage to my clutch.
Thanks
Thanks

Someone needs to start a new thread every week with a picture of a bolt that we have to guess what it is for ....the winner could get some cool TY stuff.....It would give us something to do during the offseason...

Or post rivets for clutch weights and guess how much they weigh...

Darn Tootin'
I have taken every bolt and rivet that there is on a Viper out (some numerous times), but with my memory all I do is stare at the picture thinking . . . I think I have seen that bolt before.

I remember mine came loose on the Viper and I had to tigten them down. Kinda scary when a motor mount bolt comes loose!
!
My buddy had the same problem, we kept trying to get his clutches to align. O no avail. Finally we looked around and one of the motor mount bolts was really loose! Weird.

I thought bolts only fall out of Kawasaki's!

Just to clarify, the bolt I originally showed did not fall out I forgot to put it back in when I took the motor out. Forgot one bolt out of like one hundred. That's only a 1% error, Not too shabby. Although maybe I should have lock tited them hearing the stories above.
