I was wondering who out there has tried a RX 1 and how they liked it compared to a Viper. I got my sled super cheap this winter and I've seen some nice looking RX 1's for sale for about the same price as people are selling Vipers. I always wanted a 4 stroke, but have never rode one. I don't ride aggressively any more so I thought it might be a nice low maintenance ride. Thanx for any info.

the motor is amazing. the front suspension is too tall, sprung wrong. the rear skid is similar to what you have and the seat is too hard.

that being said, get a 04 or 05, they have correct springs and sway bar. what ever you get, put an 05 seat on it. Set of tuner skis and you will have a great cruiser that will give you consistantly 14 and above fuel mileage in about any condition and on occasion, 18mpg. If you like your viper because it is light, do not buy a rx 1 or a apex.
If your into long cruising, I would say get a vector older or newer version. little less power, and noise. fuel mileage is even better by a few miles per.

Viper is an awsome sled. Never owned one but have rode the and run with/against them on an RX.

I'd take the RX all day every day in any conditions. It will lead in all catagories, the weight difference is not that different and not really noticable.

Hey thanx everyone for your input on what these machines are like. I'm kinda up in the air about selling mine for a RX 1 or not. I've seen some for about the same price that I should be able to get for mine. Are there common problems with RX 1's that I should look for if I start looking at them ?

I have owned both type sleds, the viper is a sweet sled for all type trails. It is light, steers easy and enjoyable in most conditions. My 03 RX1 was super dependable but no fun on small trails, it was heavy, the front end would list very easy when only a foot or 2 off the side of trail , but on BIG trails it was a great sled, fast reliable, super stable and very good MPG on 87 octane fuel. Very different sleds...

opsled, I am not sure your a good judge of weight, coming off a v4 onto a rx 1 .

:)

LOL!!

I guess I'm not into skinny chicks and although it may take more effort the big girls can dance too.

PS, I'm 52, 6ft 170lbs and I don't get how hyped many get about the 30 to 50 lb difference in many sleds.

Well if the RX 1 isn't as good on small twisty trails I may keep the Viper. Where I'm at here in Vt most of the trails are small and tight. Plus my wife rides on the back sometimes so I don't want a sled that tips easier than my Viper. Thanx everyone.

i have riden both

The viper is a mountain sled. And behaves and has qualities as such. Powerful, reasonably light higher center of gravity, 2 stoke. if you go anywhere, near powder this is the machine. The Rx-1 my buddy had was really powerful and quiet with a ton of torque. More like a Cadillac. If you ride lots of trails this could be a nicer civilized ride. However it was the worst, evil, fattest pig if it ever got stuck, and handled like a cow in powder. Money and mods could help with this........lots of money. Just my 2 cents

The 05 had the Mono skid which is night and day better ride than the Viper. You will want to make the proper upgrades to the skid. There are a number of other mods that you can make to get this machine to handle very well on the tight twisties. You will have to lean and/or shift body weight more to corner as well as the Viper, but with the right setup it is very hard to stay with it on a stock Viper even in the twisties. The torque of the motor is to die for coming out of the corners. Really takes a SRX or piped Viper to compete with it. They are heavy, and take a good deal of mods to make them off-trailable really which then makes them suffer on the trail a bit.
