Seen a lot of blue yamaha(srx) and vipers running around. They seem to run real good on the drag strip. I am considering buying one. I like the looks and from what I've seen they are fast also. My ? Is what year should I look for or which is bEst bang for my buck. Also, any pitfalls to look for? Already have vmax4, et250 and wr400 so I prefer Yamaha.

00-02 SRX are the more desirable years. Vipers are pretty much all same performance wise. stock for stock the srx is much faster than the viper but pipes put the viper in front of the srx.

Are the vipers 700 triples as well? They are faster with only a set
Of pipes? What is the Going price for a viper?

yes vipers are 700 triples. they come stock with a single pipe and 125ish hp. the srx is triple piped stock and 140ish hp stock. vipers have more aggresive porting and hotter ignition timing and with triple pipes are in the 150 hp range.

Only a set of pipes puts the viper ahead? What set of pipes should I look for? Also, what should I expect to pay for a decent viper? It sounds like a sleeper.

sure a well clutched and tuned Viper without pipes could beat a poorly tuned SRX but all things equal the Viper needs the pipes. CPR, SLP would be my first pipe choices. For a good clean runner I would say between $1500 and $2500

Which has better suspension? Viper or srx? Power seems to be similar. Thanks for the info.

Vipers have a long travel suspension in them compared to a srx. Meaning more travel then a srx.

Thanks for the info. Didn't think it would be that easy to find one. I have another Yamaha torn apart now that needs finished first. Though if that viper was in Mich. I think I would jump on it. I am new to this site and so far I have learned a lot reading Tech sections and responses Are quick and knowledgable. Seems like a great site.

Can viper cylinders be installed on a SRX?
