My dad just bought an '05 RX1 from Kieffer's Yamaha in Franklin, Wi on 76th and Rawson. The dealer told him to bring it back in after 500 miles for a check up and oil change. Upon taking it in and having them change the oil, he went to pick up the sled, and got a bill for $289!!! They said this was mostly all in labor for the oil change, as it is "quite a difficult procedure" It may not be the quickest maintenance in the world, but $289 for an OIL CHANGE is riddamndiculous. The only other thing on the invoice was loosening of the rear spring for a softer ride. The owner also told him that now that the filter has been changed, it should be good for 10,000 miles, with an oil change every 3,000 miles. What is this guy smoking? Why the hell wouldn't you change the filter for 13.00 bucks? "Oh i just paid 8,500 for this new sled, but its leaking all of its compression and ticking real bad because i was told the filter only needs to be changed once" This dealer is all about generating more money from people bringing their sleds back with severe damage i guess. This definately isn't the first time this dealer has tried to pull something like this, its common play. They didn't even know what snowflap to order for a basic proaction sled, or what belt a stock viper takes. Even if you have to pay more money for your new sled, its probably worth it to steer clear of the service this dealer gives. How much longer until they are out of business with their shotty service?

Thanks for the heads up or at least the impression that you got unfar service! I won't be going their, or to the one in Brookfield! As of late I've been going to the one in Mukwonago, but they just sold me a shut off valve that I'm starting to think is to small! I don't want to drive to Port Washington but I'm thinking I should so I can find a decent dealer that always gives quailty service and that is what I've heard about Port!
P.S. call around to see if this is far market price for a oil change on a new RX-1!

my buddy has an rx1 and i have changed the oil twice now and it is quite simple, just very time consuming. once you do it the first time you will see. just my 2 cents worth. good luck.
80$ oil change that sounds more reasonable than the almost 300 dollar bill i got i deffinatly got ripped off on that

My dealer charges me $75.02 including labor, oil and filter, $2 shop supply fee and tax. You need to find a new dealer.
how often should the filter on the rx1?
I think my dealer is full of it when he said 10,000 miles

Yamaha's book says a oil change on an RX-1 should take in the 45 minute range. I would change to oil & filter every 2000 miles if you ride that much each season or just once in the fall before each season starts.

I have always found Kieffer's to be a rip-off joint as well. They were trying to sell me an '01 SX 600R in spring 2004 for $6,900 and he said he would be LOSING on it. That was the last time i ever went to those crooked morons. Now its the 45 minute drive to Recreation Plus in Twin Lakes, Wi. MUCH better service, and the owner Bob is not a crook looking to make a quick buck.
