Just a thought
I use to go through a set of slides about every 500-1000 miles on my viper. I tried the incredibly expensive Hiperfax which I managed to ruin in 1 trip. After a bunch of emails with the engineer at Hiperfax the general conclusion is that heat is what destroyed my slides. They have found in their testing that air is as much as a factor as snow in cooling slides. He had me open up the windows slightly on my track so that they were wider than the slides to allow air, and I imagine snow too, to get to the slides. My next set of OEM Yamaha slides were only half wore out at 1000 miles. I ended up swapping in an Edge skid last year so I don't know how long they would have gone. So the point of my rambling story is I don't think wider slides are going to help, if anything they are going to hurt because they are not going to allow enough air and snow to get to the slides and cool them. You can also search and there is a lot of threads discussing using either larger wheels, extra wheels, or wheel relocation kits to reduce the wear on the front where they tend to wear out the fastest.
