Is there any difference with the clutches on the yamaha sleds besides weights and springs? I was just looking at an aftermarket rebuild kit and that shows that it will work for all yamaha YVXC clutches from 1988 and up but when I go to a yamaha web site it looks like different years had different part numbers for some of the parts. When I look at the clutches on my SX700 and my SRX the only thing that looks different to me is the clutch cap.

I've personally never used an A/M kit but from what I gather some of them aren't very good, with sloppy fit etc.I know you can save mucho coin with one but just make sure the quality is there.

I wasn't actually planning on getting the aftermarket kit, I was using that as an example, I just wanted to know what the differences were on the clutches on the different years and models.

with out going into too much specifics, things that have changed on those cutches over the years include quite a list.

off the top of my head, heres a few things to start a list, hopefully others can add to it:

slider bushings changed
sheave angles changed
spiders changed
length of the spider arms changed
roller pin diameters changed
covers changed about 4 times as did the bushings in the covers
set screws were added for the weight and roller pins somewhere along the line.

after about 98 ish,(those clutches with the tall covers) they finally had the bugs worked out pretty well.

I was just kinda wondering because I wouldn't mind picking up spare clutches for both my sleds, 97 700sx and 2000 srx. Thanks

your 97 should be the last year of the 9mm pins for the rollers and have the "short" cover as well.

the 2000 should have the 8mm pins on the rollers and the "tall" cover. both should be drilled for the e-start ring gear. compare the roller pins between your 2 clutches, if the clutches are stock to the sleds.

depending on your needs and what you have for extra tuning parts, i wouldnt consider any clutch pre-98 for spares. 9mm i.d. rollers seem to be getting harder to locate, the 8mm's have been readily available.

Well actually I changed the clutch in my 97 a few years back, If I remember right, it came from a 99 vmax. Sheaves have the same part#s and both clutches have the short cover. I just took the spring and weights from my old clutch and put them in the new one.
