I'm working on a 2001 SRX and I'm trying to hook up a switch and a temp gauge. I know that I have a good ground from the black wire that splits to the head lights and gauges, but is the blue wire that I'm thinking of using a constant 12v it comes from the harness and splits before the gauges am I right a is the blue wire constant I need your guys help

That should work but are you looking for AC or DC power? Or does it not matter? That blue will give you a clean 12v AC source from my findings, ive used this for my heated shields for many years without problem but the heated shield does not care between AC or DC. This should be the same blue wire that runs off the handlebars. A clean DC will come from a brown tach wire. Id have to look up some info to get you the exact location of the wire.

That would help tremendously if you can find that location for me. I'm looking to put in a temp gauge at this point so the info on the blue wire is great to hear

Chris,
Can you tell me what wires to tap into for my viper? I need DC for my gauge.
Thanks, Jason

All my brown wires that are on the tach connect together and go to the plug at the plug where the harrness and the plug clip to each other the color changes from the brown to blue is that still going to be clean dc? There is no brown wire that travels down the wire harrness that plugs together in the belly pan

I know its just the wording but your post was confusing. I have never personally had to use a 12vdc as i run e starts and wire directly to battery so not sure exactly. best way is to fire up sled and test current for 12v at that wire you found. I also know that your reverse back up wiring harness has a pink and brown wire on it. That brown is 12v dc as i have tested it on my viper and 98xt. Im pretty sure the srx has this harness also as all sleds came prewired for e start and reverse. Those wires will be located somewhere around your coolant bottle just hanging by themselves. Probably will have to dig for them. Maybe someone can confirm they are indeed on a SRX before ya dig around.

JD that reverse buzzer wire (brown) should work fine. Just test for DC with sled fired up. I considered using this at one time to run my GPS but ended up just running off the battery.

I looked at all the threads and the brown wire from the tach that people are connecting to is the one I'm following and it turns into a blue wire at the plug I'm just lost and confused and the wiring diagram is blurry and I can't really follow it so if anyone is close and has a manual I can look at let me know
