I was just looking at my cyl heads on my srx and it looks like there was some kind of grey sealant used on the heads, looks like yamabond. These are sealed with o rings, what would be the reason for the sealant?

I guess the guys at hauck powersports are rednecks then. lol. They were the ones that last rebuilt it.

Probably reused the old orings then used grey sealer just to make sure it didn't leak

I would clean all that YamaBond out of the grooves and replace O rings.
I coat my SRXs O rings with dielectric grease and they last don't stick and can be reused many times after disassembly.
If you need Yamabond on the SRXs head gaskets...you have a problem that needs to be corrected.

You'd think if there were a problem it would only maybe be on one cyl but it's on all 3. I sent an email to Hauck since they were the last ones that I know of to open the engine up, we'll see what they have to say about it.

What's the story behind this? Why are you opening them up? What is your compression at for all 3 jugs?

Well, I didn't open them up, I just noticed some sealant between the cyls and heads and was wondering why there would be sealant on the heads along with the o rings. The engine has around 1500 miles on it since the rebuild, I did a compression test on it last time I ran it and all 3 cyls were exactly the same at about 120, but.....I was told that you need to open the throttle up when doing a compression test and I didn't so I'm thinking it probably has more than 120, and I have a cheapo compression tester so that may give me an inaccurate reading, but all 3 were the same so thats good.

I initially thought you had it torn apart for a rebuild...
With only 1500 miles, and even compression across all 3 cylinders it should be good to go.
As the saying goes..."If it aint broke...DON'T FIX IT"!!!!

I have used yamabond lightly on the o rings to ensure they don't move during assembly. I've had new o rings pop out of the groove and pinched them when torquing the heads down. Just a bit of insurance on the assembly!

Thats Yamabound4 And The Best Sealant For Assembly Yamaha Has. I Myself Have Never Used It At O-rings, I Also Use Grease But Can,t See That Stuff Hurting Anything Works Really Good. 3;16 (yammie Tony)

I also use grease to hold the o-rings in place but if it's running good and not leaking anything just run it.
