I just went and looked at an '02 SRX, he said he is the original owner. I told him I would take the sled at the end of the week as I just needed to get my trailer and left him a $100 deposit. What was kinda odd is that it was in a barn, detached from a house, he said he doesn't live there anymore so I am just hoping he isnt selling anything stolen also is having trouble finding an old reg.
I asked him if he had title and he said he didn't just prev reg that is in his sons name. I said I would need the son, with his ID, to make out the bill of sale.
My question is...
1. Are bill of sale adequate or is their a title involved. I want to make sure I am doing "due diligence" making sure it isnt stolen.
2. Also, he says it is a 2002, it has the DCS, but the mfg date is 6/01, were the '02 manufactured that early?
A few crappy pics

Maybe give the DNR a call with the vin to make sure it isn't stolen before you give him the rest of the cash. Thats a nice looking sled, whats a sled like that going for in your area?

I would rather not say as I bought it with the intention of eventually selling it
What is "DNR"?

That is a 2002. You can tell by the dcs, the hood decals, and the trailing arm decals. They are all unique to the 02 and a mid 01 manufacture date would make it an 02

I dont know about Mass but here in Michigan yeah that's all you need (previous reg) Actually IF IT ISNT stolen you don't even need that, you can go in to sec of state (DMV) with the vin #, fill out a piece a paper where you got it, what you paid. They run the vin, usualy takes an hour or less. Provided it doesn't come back stolen you pay them and they hand you new registration.

Yes, How can you tell, because I am fairly certain he purchased it locally

02

Definitely an 02. Here is a pic of the 02 I bought 2 years ago for $1500. It had 3200 miles and needed nothing but carb cleaning and detailing. I just sold it this past winter.

if you want to find the year of any yamaha sled, write down the vin, go to the parts catalog program on yamahas site, find search model by vin, put in the vin and search. if it has no vin...... chances are its hot lol

I'd guess it's a 2002 by the build date. All of my sleds have been built well before their "model year".

The no registration thing is BS, make him go to the DMV or whatever and get a new one before you pay. It's no problem for him if he is the real owner. I personally wouldn't purchase without one, it could be a huge headache in the long run.

02 Srx

You are all right I pulled up the wrong pic. Here is the 02 I had and sold this winter. . I have had at least 20 SRX's over the past 10 years. The only one I have left is my 01 780 that I bought new. Then modded the hell out of over the years. So I have to keep this one because I will never get my money out of it. Plus it was my first one. They are one off the best sleds ever built.
