so it ends up this water pump job i have been fretting for months now wasn't so bad, getting the mechanical seal out inst what its cracked up to be! very easy!
but im not counting chickens before they hatch, i am yet to install and test for leaks and this is worrying me.
1. when installing the mechanical seal is it a good idea to put like a light grease on it when you press it into the block?
2. i hear once back together the pump will leak till the ceramic seals seat, so would it be a good idea to run it for a few seconds dry to help them seat together?
any other grate tips to getting this pump working again would be grate.

just tap the seal in using a socket the same size and tap on it.Just start it up and rev her up and get the water to circulate.Make sure you use a new bolt /washer that attach's the impeller..that is where most start to leak.Mine leaked after the first season,so switch seal and bolt..good last season...it all depends I guess..either you are lucky or you are not..keep an eye on it after.

well im still waiting to do it , just at the cottage for a few days, sleds at home. is it a good idea to put and sort of lube on the outer edge of the mechanical seal when you slip it into the block? like even use some coolant? you will for surely hear from me when i get it back together, successfully that is lol

man you paid to much for that bolt.I get mine from a US dealer almost half price, mind you I order more then 1 item and with shipping and exchange still way cheaper then buying here.I re use my cover gasket with no issue..as long as it isn't torn anywhere.

I can pu the washer for $14.95,no need for a new bolt.

oh i know i got robbed but only after i looked at the bill. and something weird happened to the cover gasket, its like its 2 inches to big, looks like the rubber lost its elasticity. i already bought it, so next time. and the reason for the new bolt was just peace of mind, i want to give that little over priced washer the best chance of sealing to the impeller and bolt.

well, started the sled. it leaks a small amount at first but seems to taper off when it warms up. i have only had it at idle so maybe it needs to seat

it should not be leaking at all with the new seal, gasket and washer..I had to change mine last year and did not leak a drop since..keep an eye on it when riding this season.Keep an eye on your coolant level as well.
