As a summer project, I picked up a 2001 VK 540 III for $700 recently in pretty decent running condition. It was used at a ski slope in PA. I'm doing a "frame off" restoration on it (mostly TLC, bearings, normal wear and tear stuff so far). Going to use the sled to groom trails right around our camp in the Adirondacks, haul wood, and lug the kids up the sled hill, etc - nothing too crazy. I've already stripped it to the frame and have that out getting sandblasted and powdercoated.

Going to have a few questions as I go along on the project. Hope I can post here as they come up. If this isnt the right forum section, feel free to relocate me as appropriate!!! I'll also try to put up some progress pictures as we go if anyone is interested...lol...

First question is.....I'm missing a couple items from the sled. Nothing major (belt guard, bumper piece, etc). Wondering if anyone is aware of salvage yard in the US that has one of these they are parting out, or who the larger salvage/parts yards are. I found one in canada where VK's grow on trees, but they dont ship for parts under $200 or something like that. Tried ebay already. Tried Hudon's in Barneveld, NY already, which is my closest salvage yard.

Thanks in advance!!!

I have a 1993 VK540 II and when looking at newer units , only the seat
and reflector package seem to change.....I never checked my crank seals
when i got it and it cost me an engine ,, rebuilt a SRV540 into it....
Where is the parts place in Canada ?? and these things are so long that
the tug on the rear tends to try and keep you straight instead of turning
and the bumper sides will show that from trees...
The older leaf spring versions would let the skis fall down as the snow
packs under the track and raises the sled...pogo stick get lifted off the snow
and don't steer...
While it is apart, fix up the pogo steering as good as you can and pull the
front limit straps tighter and see how you make out...
Also ,,, if you pull straight back to your levellers etc, then they won't pull
down on the hitch and raise the skis as bad...goose neck as far ahead as
possible on tunnel will let it steer as well as a highway tractor as it won't
pry the sled on corners...but then it will be useless as a regular ride.
Good luck

ron there is a scrap yard in Edmonton that was scrapping 3 a few years ago. I bought a chain case from them from a vkIII to put on my uncles vk. cannot remember the guys name that gave me the site or ph#.

Not to move you off here , but the 4 stroke section has a spot
for VK professional sleds and also include the old VK in there
questions and responses...
Many had / have both series and surprised they seem to use same
suspension design .
