Had to cut the track on the poor girl from last spring the other day. Drove the rail threw 3 windows and jammed her solid... Good thing the girlfriend was on her and driving slow because I could have been hurt if that had to happen at high speeds...
What tracks will fit? A friend of mine told me tracks off the old cats, zr's would fit? What's the pitch sizing and, what would be a good size studs to run on a 1" and quantity of studs to use? I've only had the sled for 1 year and seeing how the track was in bad shape I never got to hold WOT, looking for speed this year. Also, would you do gearing aswell if so what size? Clutches are stock, everything is stock. BLUE BLOOD

I just put a hacksaw 1 inch on my 01 SRX. 144 studs in the middle. I am running 1.080 stud boy power points. Itching for snow. Still stock gears. Little clutch work. Did I mention I want snow..lol

I have the Kimpex Ultimate Traxion 1 inch track.Solid track and I installed 144 1.075 studs.This track still looks like new in 2 seasons,not a rip or tear anywear and I ride the SRX hard.

I haven't priced anything yet, but they should be fairly cheap to buy now I'd say. Still iffy with studs, heard some horror stories.. Thanks for your input!

If your not going to run studs then put an 1 1/4 track on ,either the Ripsaw or the Predator,I put a 1" Predator 9830,called the Carve now, on my 01 last year and am very impressed with it.I'll be studding it this year because we get a lot of varying trail conditions here in southern NB and studs are most generally a must.
I would have to say that all modern 121" sleds take the same track size wise,15" X 121" with 2.52 pitch.If you can find a take off track from another brand it shouldn't matter as they are all interchangeable.
The pitch is the thing you want to be sure of because some of the newer sleds,like in the last few years,have gone to larger size drive cogs and hence they have a different pitch.Some are 2.86 or even 3,just make sure the one you choose is 2.52.I hope that didn't confuse you.

Nope, I got you fully!! I'm going to run studs, up here in labrador we get some very good, hard packed trails. Especially in spring when climate goes from +3 to -15 so most of the time it's ice. Probably looking to get a 3/4lug or 1" with 1.08 stud an perhaps do some gearing! I'm sure it would help on top

What about anti ratchet drive sprockets? Have people ran their 121's without them being bar tight? Are they out there for the srx?
I put a hacksaw on last summer, and the SRX does 118 in normal snow conditions on the river. It may spin more than the 1,25 ripsaw, but it's far lighter. I think I have to re-gear, seems like it's running a little too light.

anti ratchets won't be necessary with 9 tooth drivers on trails. It's more necessary with 8 tooth drivers and/or off-trail riders

If your going to run studs then I would recommend the 1" Carve ( the old Predator 9830) and the 1.08 studs,I was really impressed with how mine goes through packed and unpacked snow drifts compared to the old .910 Predator track on my 98.I've read online that the Hacksaw is more of a hard packed trail track where the Carve works in all around conditions.From what you described your trails and the ones we have here probably have a lot in common where mid to late season they tend to get really hard packed and iced up.
I know that when the track on my 98 finally needs replacement I'll be getting another Carve in either 121 or,if I can afford it,136 with all the requisite extra stuff like rail extensions and tunnel extension.
This is just my opinion and I'm sure that Hacksaw owners will say it's the way to go,it's a decision you'll ultimately have to make.

Not that I'm aware of but if you buy the track from Royal I understand they can/will drill the track for you,for a fee of course,but they don't come from Camoplast with the premolded holes or I should say that I've never seen one that was.auji700triple said:Sounds like a good recommendation. You will more than likely find that 96 may not be enough.Most guys,myself included,run at least 144 but it all really depends on how aggressive you ride.96 will give you the added safety on icy trails to help with braking but the more scratch lines/studs you have the better the traction.
The Carve is the same pattern as was used on the older Doo sleds and I'm sure it's probably the same one on other brands so if your looking at a take off or even a lightly used track you can keep that in mind.I know that my cousins 98 Mach 1 had the exact same patterned track on it when new only in a .910 lug.Back than Camoplast called that track the Predator with the model number being 9830 and it was very popular.

The ultimax track blue monster mention comes pre-drilled. I have same on a 98 srx 600 (no studs) and a 99 srx 700 with LOTS of studs, Good durable all around track. The 99 has a TON of miles and is looking a lil rough around the edges so to speak.

Never had any traction at all last winter, it was a cornering, drifting machine from hole shot to 8xxxrpms... Un handy to say the least. I say I will try the carve, but for studs on the outside I will try to avoid. Four barrel is there a particular stud pattern you like? That's decent on a track for aggressive use?

I wouldn't say that studs are any harder on sliders than normal,it depends on the snow conditions really.If anything they should almost help by chewing up the snow and ice to add a little more lube for the sliders,but if you want to try this little trick you can.Take a small drill bit,say 3/16 or 1/4,and drill shallow holes in your sliders to allow snow to pack in there that way when you do encounter hard pack or ice and the sliders warm up the heat should melt the snow and give a little lube in the form of water.I've done this in the past and the way I did it was rather than drill square to the slider,straight on,I'd drill on an angle facing forward that way your sure to have the hole packed full.I'm sure both ways work the way I do it was just an old cross country racers trick.auji700triple said:Never had any traction at all last winter, it was a cornering, drifting machine from hole shot to 8xxxrpms... As far as a stud pattern all I've ever used is my buds Woodys template,it has patterns for 48 right up to 240 I believe and what I did was use the 240 pattern and eliminate the outside studs leaving me with 144 up the middle with 3 studs in each bar.I see Royal sells the Accu-tracks stud template too but I don't know what kind of patterns it lays out,it should work just as well.The only reason I use the Woodys one is because my bud has it.

For your consideration... for trail riding, look at the Camoplast Ice Attak XT, expensive but comes pre-studded in a 1.22" profile very similar to the predator track. Yes, I understand it won't hook up the same as regular studs but it will also be lighter.

My cousin has that track under his Mach 1 and seems to like it,it's the Hacksaw prestudded.I guess it's a decent alternative to the conventional push through studs and like ns says it no doubt is lighter than a track with studs but there's give and take with both styles.Conventional studs offer better grip where the prestudded tracks are overall lighter and still offer some traction grip,although not as much.

x2 on the kimpex ultimate traction track I put one on my 02 srx before the start of last season, I hadn't taken the studs out of my old track yet so I just ran the kimpex last year without them an I love the track hooks up decent on trail an is a lot better than my stocker in loose snow. I would def recommend this track. IMO
