My kids 90 Phazer II started having trouble by the end of the season. Now that it's time to start thinking about winter again I want to get it fixed before the snow flies. It runs fine at first, but as the sled warms up it runs slower and slower, until I can only get it go about 10 miles an hour. Is it the stator or could it be something else?

Sounds odd but check the crank seals. Then I would probably poke around the cdi/coil areas. One of my buddies had an EFI cat 600 that did what you are describing and every one told him it was the stator. Replaced that and it ran better but still didn't run right. He gave up and sold it though. So we never found the issue.

That is a possibility but it will only slip to a certain extent. Maybe up to an rpm where the air resistance on the fan causes it to get "stuck" at a certain rpm. I believe belt deflection is somewhere around 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch at 16-20 lbs of pressure(can't remember at the moment). This can be checked with a fish scale. If its too loose, remove the nut from the small pulley shaft and take the outside sheave off. There should be some keyed washers in there that you can remove to tighten the belt up. At this point, you might as well change the belt.

I realize this is a old tread but did you ever find the problem with it? I'm having similar issues.
