Hi
My SRX is clutched for top end speed. I have a 1 inch camoplast hacksaw track. The sled seems to be running out of gear when I approach 190 (118 mph) on the speedo, and it can barely every get past that. I calculated my gearing on a gearing calculator, and my theoretical top speed is just 170 km/h (or 105,69 mph) without overdrive. Sure, the speedo shows too much, but I've had 200 (124 mph), once which read 185,8 (115,5 mph) on a gps (see avatar pic). That's approx 9,2% overdrive according to the calculator. I don't care much about other than top speed on this sled, I have a MM for trail and off trail riding. Should I just gear up to 23/38 and be done with it, other than maybe having to re-clutch?

23/38 is what was stock, so the question is whats the gears in it now then?

We have run radar and gps speeds of 128 mph with more than one stock SRX with 23/38 gearing. Get the sled to roll well and clutch it heavy on the tips of the weights. We tried the taller gearing and where not able to match our best numbers with stock gearing. Not that it cannot be done! We just never found the right combination to make it happen.

went from 23/38 on tar to 23 /37 for1/4 mile. worked great, saw more mph at the stripe. i did this because of my weight (238] vs my driver (145). huge difference. 3:16 (YAMMIE TONY)

I used to ride with a group if good friends that always tried to "one up" the others with acceleration and top speed. Our group consisted of a 97 SX 700 that was piped/ clutched, my 98 SRX, another 98 SRX, and an 02 SRX. Our runs were always on good pack, on fields or lakes. We always tried to be as consistent with our races so as to know what worked and what didn't.

All 4 sleds were pretty evenly matched, give or take a sled length in 1/4 mile or more. But my sled always ran great on top end and would pull away slowly. Radar and gps always showed an advantage of 3 - 5 mph. I went one tooth larger on my top gear for more top end, just to see if it would pull it. The suprise came when I would pull all sleds out of the hole buy 2 / 3 sleds. Night and day difference. Raced on the same day, same snow conditions.

If i'm on a nice slight down hill plowed road with no fluff I'll do 115mpr on gps,,,,, Same hill,,,,same temp, with 1.2" of flufff... 105mpr,,,,,, thats with SC10/3 sup.

youll get better hook up alot of times geared a bit taller then the speed you can actually reach, because the sled will transmit less torq to the track allowing you to hook up instead of blowing snowcones out the back. Youll keep the belt out of overdrive as well giving you a better clutch efficency.

Theres 100 ways to gear and clutch a sled, everyone has thier own way, you just gotta tune, test, tune, test, and then find what works for you with your paticular combo. :rulez:
