Just wondering what the weight difference is between the two and with both having triple pipes is there a horse power and reliability difference.

Not sure on weight but i think the srx is heavier. The srx is more of a groomed trail lake racer. The viper has a lot more travel in the suspension and will handle the rough trails better. As far as power the srx stock has more, around 120hp. If you put a set of pipes and clutch and jet right on a viper you can get close to 160hp. reliability can be a issue after piping the viper so you have to do it right.

viper stock is around 120 and close to 150 or so with pipes. Srx stock is at about 140 hp if I remember correctly. Also stock srx= greater reliability and fuel mileage than piped viper, but correctly set up piped viper will beat a stock srx in a race.

The Viper is listed at 490lbs dry and the SRX is usually listed around 525lbs dry.

X2 what he said!
if you are runnin lakes, get a srx, good handling, awesome gas mpg for as much power as they come with from yamaha.
if your trail runnin and needin more suspension get a viper.
For the viper pipes, just be prepared to go from 13mpg to around 9mpg, but hey, you wanna play with the power you gotta pay the gas man!

Average is 137-138hp for the 98-99 models, 2000-02 make right about 140hp spot on, a real good dyno tested "ringer" was 141.7hp. Must have been made on wed instead of friday....lol. That 1.7hp differance is pretty small, but the bulk of them tested were pretty much right at 140hp.
Many people say they made more hp like 145hp,but they dont. Just wishfull thinking.
now, fully blueprinted they will make 150 ish hp, so the potential was there to produce higher hp numbers in stock form but the factory couldnt hold the specs that tight to get there with production models. Not that thats any differnt then any other manufacture.
still an awesome engine/set up from the factory!
