So I put a brand new lens in my goggles early last season, I have some old school Scott 87 OTG's with a yellow Xi lens. The problem is the lens is trashed after one short season. Most of my riding is through brush and trees and what not so there's fairly constant tree branch to the face action. Now, I wasn't expecting to keep the lens mint, but trashed after one season?! Are tear offs worth it in this scenario? These lenses are $20 a piece.

tear offs are really only meant to stay on for duration of a motocross race. They dont seal to the lens so moisture and stuff can get behind them making your view blurry. Save the money spent on lenses and tear offs and get yourself a pair of mid-high end goggles. I can personally recommend 509 aviators. I have the stealths and after a full season of ice and rocks being roosted...Then I used them all summer, they are still completely scratch free. Of course there are cheaper options as well.

It really also depends what finish you get on the outside of the lens. Don't get chrome and expect it too hold up for a long time. I learned this the hard way with some 509 sinister goggles. Tried cleaning the lens on the trail with a soft fleece neck warmer and it started taking the chrome off. Luckily 509 replaced them under warranty and enclosed the "proper cleaning procedure".

There's no coating or special finish on the outside of the lens. Just straight up yellow. I guess I'll chalk it up as a wear item and replace as necessary. I love these goggles. Super comfy and they fit well in my helmet.
