Hey guys
I'm trying to change my transfer rods from one skid to another and am having troubles with getting the bogie wheels off the skid, seems as though there pressed it very tightly installed on there, does anyone have a trick for pulling them off ?
Thanks

A press is the best way I have found to remove them. If you just try and pound off you will most likely mess up those wheels..

What kind of press? Where does a guy get one at?

If you can get the clip out use a puller and pull the bearing off that's the best way for me

A 2x4 over the end of the shaft as not to damage it. Then a few good wacks of a man hammer and it should come right off. I support the H-arm best i can. Never had a problem getting one off and a dab of anti seize before you install the wheels and they come of nice and easy the next time.

They are not a press fit by design, they should slip off and on. A little corrosion may have them stuck. When I put on my transfer strap kit I followed MPI's instructions they say to take a bolt that won't be reused and bottom that out in the axle and whack away. Clean them up and nevere seize before re assembly.

you shouldn't hit the shaft against the arm. there is a bushing in there that you can cut the thrust side off of. just remove the wheel from the bearing, this is why they go on, snap ring inward. then you can get a puller on the bearing. make sure and use a dummy bolt to save the threads of your shaft. These are neglected wheels and probably need bearings anyway.

And if it's still really stuck on there take the clip out of the wheel and remove the wheel as not to melt it. Then heat it up a bit with a torch, and try again.

I just did 2 vipers 02 and 04 the original wheels do not have clips they press on.I changed them to srx they use bearings with clip means buying new wheels and bearings.makes it a hell of a lot easier next time.price them out then price original with non removable bearing.I also used my press [50 ton]
