Pulled the dipstick on the viper today and there were a few small pieces of rubber/plastic on it. Took cover off and found this washer (might be some sort of locking washer) and a bunch of pieces of plastic/rubber. Pulled the chain and gears...both of the inner bearings look good with seals in place. The outer bearing has no number on it and no seals. I just happened to have an srx tore down for track change so I had its bearings to look at. The srx bearing has no seal either. I called napa with the bearing number off the srx. They said they could get it with or without seals. I wonder if when the track was changed the mechanic used a sealed bearing and the seal is what I am finding. Still doesnt explain the small washer though... Looked at the parts diagram and I dont see the washer anywhere.

HMMM that washer looking thing has nothing to do with the chain case that im aware of. Ive torn these cases apart more times then i can count. Is that whats left of the metal part of the bearing seal? Only thing is how did it come off and just be laying around in case? How big is that? Hard to tell from pic's.

And remember OEM is a bearing with one seal and that seal faces the oil. The intent was that the oil will get past the seal to the bearings but not the little metal shavings. The gasket on the outside of the case for the bearing keeps the dirt out and oil in.

I've never been in a viper case before, but that reminds me a lot of what my sx looked like when that little washer thing worked it's way off the end of the dipstick and let the magnet go through the gears/chain/bearings.

yeah, that looks like the clip that holds the magnet on the stick. other than that.... i dont think it should be in there?
