It looks like you have a locking collar that needs to come off.

Yeah, I figured that out this morning I am soaking the Alan screws on the collars with liquid wrench and WD-40...If I strip that screw, I'm screwed....I will be parting this old thing out...they are pretty bad, I may walk away from this until next weekend...just keep spraying them once a day.
Thank you so much for the reply!

A good sharp cobalt drill bit will make easy work of those set screws.

I may do just that, I do need to locate new sealed bearings, I may as well search for collars as well...locating old Merc parts is not an easy task.

There should be a number on the bearing. I imagine any bearing house would have that bearing. Most likely the collar will come with the new bearing. You should check out www.vintagesleds.com There are a lot of knowledgeable guys on there and a good source for parts as well.

Drilling all the set screws out tomorrow, they are way too far gone, I don't know what made me think I could get away with soaking them with penetrating fluid...I want this sled done by the 1st of the year to attend the Eagle River vintage sled event, this 71 Merc and 81 Excel 3 should be a fun combo.
