can you use the primary bolt with Teflon and the water or grease method or do you have to use the removal tool?

And buy a good one! They have a few out there, look for one that is tapered on the end, not just a straight cut to a smaller diameter. Those will deflect and buckle under torq.

I don't own a puller, but like maxco said, BUY A GOOD ONE. I've read too many horror stories over the years on here about guys breaking pullers off in the clutch/crank

I had my clutch puller pig tail in the primary. It popped the primary off but curled up inside it. I had to drill it out, really annoying especially when spend 40$ On one.

I went to a Yamaha dealer and got my puller...I threaded it in till it bent and broke. so then I did the grease method. Yes it sucks to clean up but it does actually work. just take a grease gun fill the primary bolt hole, put Teflon tape on the bolt threads and then thread it in, works like a charm. I think it works better then the water method
