Hi everyone, i tried using search but didn't find anything on this, maybe its the new search tool i dunno. i installed a new camoplast 1.25" track on my 00 sx700r and it seems like it rubs on one of the front heat exchanger protectors. i don't know if this is a big issue or not. the other problem im having is getting the 6 bolts for the skid to line back up. this is my first track swap so any tips would be greatly appreciated! i thought i read that a 1.25 inch would fir but it seems tight to me now. thanks

You might need to clip down the lugs a quarter inch jusrt where is lines up with the protectors. As far as lining up the holes, start with the front ones first, then the middle, it will help to unbolt the transfer rods from the rails to get the rear holes lined up. The first couple of times putting the skid back in are the hardest, but you can do it yourself. Sometimes it helps to have a friend helping you.

if i remember right, with a 1inch and over you must remove the front ex- protectors, notch the track or go to 8 tooth drivers. for the skid line up, i usually do it with 2 people, do the back ones then the front then the center. i always find the center is a pia. idk if this is the best way to do it, but this is how i do.

I've run a 1.25" with the protectors in place, but just notch the track like I said in the earlier post. But you can remove the protectors. You should only need to go to 8 tooth drivers if you are using studs.
Remove the protectors. Put the front of the skid in first when you get to the back use a ratchet strap to compress the suspension to line the rear holes up.

Backing off on the bolts that hold the transfer rods together removes the preload in the rear skid. The service manual method of installation is front, rear, middle with the bolts backed off, then tighten up the transfer rod bolts. I fought and fought with my skid until I gave in and took the transfer rod bolts out, made it so much easier.

X2 - I have used a ratchet strap to compress the skid which works too but unbolting the transfer rods works better.
I would suggest clipping the track instead of removing the front HX protectors. If you decide to stud it, you'll be glad you didn't remove them.
FYI
I just put a new Ice Attack on my SXR and it just touches the front protectors. It says the track is 1.063 at the lug, but it is lower right where it touches the protectors so I am just going to let it wear in by itself as it barely rubs. Any bigger track would not fit well.
Don't know how the track performs, but am looking forward to finding out. I think it will have to be better than stock at least.
I have also just taken the shocks out of the skid when removing it. It takes all the fight out of it and it's not hard to remove and replace the shock with the sled on its side.

thanks for all the feedback! i willl keep all that advice in mind as i try working on it more!
so i ended up having to take the track back off because i had to fix something i forgot to put in the chain case and figured id take the exchanger protector out since i was that far. no problems there. i was able to remove it as i dont intend on studding it and everything went if completely fine. the only thing i am noticing now is that the track is actually rubbing up on the inside of the tunnel. not the tunnel itself but there are two aluminum bars that run along the top of the tunnel and the track rubs only on the part way up front by the drive sprocket. is this something to worry about or should i just let it rub on it?
