alright i know what the differences are between them i was just wondering which would be better i do about 70% trail riding 30% offtrail i already have triple pipes for a sxr if i got that i would like to do a 136 mod with a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch track i have a arctic cat zr skid i could put under it if it would ride a lot better. Ive looked at craigslist and seen them both in good condition for right around 1500 Mountain Max is out of the question none for sale near me im just looking for your opinions on which would be a better sled for my needs im stuck between the two

Both great sleds depends on how much maintains you wanna do srx does require more but a sx can be maid to keep up with a srx 136 does ride alot better for sure slp rail ext and tunnel ext are priced reasonable.

When I was getting back into sledding I had the same choice to make. Came down to this thought process for me. Go with SxR and mod for speed or go with SRX and mod for a better suspension. Found a 00 SRX with pioneer long travel already in it. If your already planning on upgradeing suspension I would go with SRX myself. Which ever way you go I would shoot for newer dual bulb with the hotter stator. I have since picked up 4 more SRX's, a 01 SxR for the girlfriend and an 04 Viper S with Hartman 144" kit........LOVE....LOVE... the 144". Check out Tracks USA for tipped up rail/track kits.

A mountain max would be a good find if you can get ahold of one from the start. I had never even heard of the MM before I got mine. I picked it up in march 11 from Al's over in Newport. I passed someone up in orange last year on an early 136mm. If you want one, it might be worth the time to search for one.

Depends what you're talking for "off-trail" but that is definitely not a strong point for a SRX. You can throw a bunch of mods at one to make it better but it will never be at home there.

srx for sure, wide skis, long travel front end and a good skid of your choice in the back. motor is far smoother, quieter, more power and your fuel mileage will be better. Only downfall is it is a little heavier in the front but not by much and you have to clean powervalves every 8-1200 miles for them to last well

yah but like i said i cant find any mountain max's and if one happend to pop up on craigslist its eithier blown up not blue a twin or way overpriced

Way overpriced is all relative on craigslist. If nobody has looked at it and you offer them less but reasonable they would be stupid not to sell it, or they don't really want to sell it just show it off and have everyone tell them how awesome it is. Mine has 5400 miles on it, Al's was asking 2395 which was basically blue book for it. I traded them my blown up 87 Indy 600 with a new track that I bough from them and they went for it, $2k out the door. If I were to sell mine right now, I wouldn't entertain anything less than $3k, and I would still be out about $2k on everything I've put into it to get it where it is now. They are kinda one of those sleds that once you have one it will grow on you and you don't ever really want to sell it anyways.

Wish I would have known that, summer before last I traded a couple hundred dollar (on its BEST day) Riding lawn mower that was GIVEN to me for a Mtn max, 00 I believe it was. Had not ben very well taken care, pretty beat down but was in riding condtition. To be honest the reverse kit and can was all I really wanted off from it. A friend of a friend offered me $1,000 for it and down the road she went!
