02 viper that I cleaned the carbs and put it all back together and sled idles great. My speedo keeps resetting 3 times in a row then will be normal to hit gas again but will stutter and then rest 3 times again. I thought it was the battery but I took that out and still the same thing happens...

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Jeff

You have an electrical short somewhere. Harness under the engine maybe?

I'm not sure on this, I don't own an Estart sled but I think removing the battery if it's bad on an estart sled wouldn't help as the battery acts as the smoothing or condensing coil or something like that. again, not up on all the e-start stuff but seems like something I've read here

It will do that if the battery is dead or disconnected. You have to put a charged battery back in it or wire in a smoothing coil from a non e-start viper to get it to stop.

Wow! thats great info guys... I thought the battery might have been the issue since it was dead and took it out to hopefully get passed that problem but i learn something new everyday. Battery is on charge and I will update tomorrow hopefully..

Thanks a lot guys,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

How old is the battery and how has it been treated? An old battery that has been discharged and left dead for a long period of time will loose it capacity. The electronics in a battery charger can indicate the battery is fully charged but the battery is actually holding only a small amount of charge. It would be good if you can get the battery load tested to determine its condition. I have had batteries that I would charge until the indicator on teh charger said it was DONE only to put the bettery back in teh vehicle, attempt to start the engine and have the battery discharge quickly. Can you start, stop and start the sled with the electric starter several times before the starter spins the engine slowly?

problem fixed! new battery.... now say im out on the trail and this happens again, any advice for an on trail fix? because that would suck to be stuck and know the problem..

thanks!

I can't speak to a trailside fix; and as rxjim mentioned, a surface charge might mask a sulfated battery.

If I had e-start I'd hardwire an RCA connection at the dash that plugs into a battery tender for ease of connection. I'd be more likely to plug it in rather than attaching the tender with the clamps at the battery. Either way, the battery is more likely to last it's intented life and nearly eliminate a trailside problem.

Use the same connector on other sleds, ATV or equipment that use batteries. Dab and wipe some dielectric grease on it to keep clean of corrosion.

Well new battery seem to do the trick and then I began to have issues again. letting off the throttle or jamming the brakes hard and getting back on the throttle boggs the motor and sends it into its stutter mode until back to idle and then you can ride on again...

any help would be great thanks!!

if its just the motor stuttering, loosen up your throttle cable its too tight setting of the tors switch!

oh ok.. figured it to be tors of some sort but couldnt be sure what exactly.. Ill try that!

Thanks!
