hey guys im here posting again due to my lack of experience. when i put my chain case i forgot to put back in the small round spacer? im not sure what its called but there are two of them one on each shaft and i forgot to put this one on the drive sprocket shaft. i put everything back together and torqued down to spec before i realized i forgot it. well i took it apart to try and get it off and the last gear on the bottom shaft doesnt seem to want to come off. its the one that goes over the drive sprocket spline and has a spline on itself too. i took the skid out and everthing but this just doesnt wanna come off. did i break something? any way to get it off? i have photos but cant seem to upload them. thanks for any tips

i made same mistake but didnt have it torqued down before i noticed and it was a real pain to get off. i used a bar and a peice of wood and pried it off. You may need one of them universal flywheel pullers to make things a bit easier.

When you torqued it down you kinda set the end of the drive shaft splines onto the gear. It will come with a little work. Slowly prying (carefully) back and forth like devinzz1 said or since you already took skid out how about loosening the drive shaft bearing and use a block of wood on end of driveshaft chaincase side and give it a few wacks. There should be enough side to side play With the drive loose to be able to bang it off without much effort.

if i hit that gear on the chaincase side wouldnt it just push the gear onto the spline more? i think that last gear is attached to a spline that slides over the driveshaft correct?

Dont hit the gear, hit the shaft. Use a small piece of wood ect... as not to damage drive end and the chaincase will hold up the gear from moving but not prevent the drive shaft from moving. Thats whats got you hung up, you kinda pressed the gear to the shaft when you torqued it down due to the splines.

Use a piece of aluminum or brass as a punch between the hammer and shaft. The aluminum or brass is soft enough to not damage the shaft and is solid enough to transfer the shock to knock the gear loose. also be careful of the bearing on the other end of the shaft as ther is a set screw that holds the bearing onto the shaft.

so it turns out that my brother had a gear puller. i put that on their and it came of in three effortless turns. looks like there was no damage, just that the splines tightened hard on each other. i just over reacted. but thanks for all the input!
