I tried the 53/43 helix(dalton)in my stock 04 viper s this weekend and i wasnt impressed. My sled has 600 miles on it so i know my clutches and belt are in excellent condition.First set up:53/43 with green spring at 60 degrees-sluggish on bottom end with poor back shift. Then i tried it at 70 degrees, little better but still sluggish on bottom end. Then i gave up and put stock helix back in which works good.Should i try 80 or 90 degrees? The tech page recommends 60 degrees.

blue did you run against another sled before the helix change & after? If not you really need to so you can see the gain. From what I have found is if the sled feels fast its not, The faster setup always gets the power to the ground making the sled feel slow.
Try it again against a test mule before & after so you will see for yourself. I know what the Dalton 53/43 did for Skidooboys piped Viper this weekend & it did nothing but make the sled a better complete package! Run it @ 60 for loose snow & 70 for a heavy wet snow.

To be honest,i tried it trail riding about 5 miles.I noticed right away it seemed to bog a little when i got on it at low speeds, the backshift was slow too.Im going to north bay again in a couple weeks and staying right on the lake,i'll take my speed check with me and try it again.Should i also try the red spring at 80 degrees?

Bushman, What is skidoo boy running for pipes? I have a 53/35 bender helix in my piped viper since last year and noticed a major drop in rpm but it pulls like a b*&^** in the middle and ran with my mule blew him away even with under rev. Running slp's stock everything else, changed stock primary this year to stock again(5,000 miles on spring) and changed secondary to green. Have not taken it for a ride yet but hope it is alittle closer to what I want (8800rpm's) also put 2 shims in primary spring. I'll let you know how it works. I don't know what blue had in his sled stock but if was a straight 47% helix like mine was 2002 viper he is loosing alot after he gets out of hole MAYBE TRY TURKS 51/43 setup with green spring and he might like. havent been too tech pages for awile but I believe that was turks original setup in 2002 no pipes. My mule sleds are rev 800 ho. & f/6. 800 ho clutched piped, f/6 stock so I'm told? no problem with either one but 800 has something new for me this year (I guess he has geared and clutched to a new mach spec we will see)

My 04 viper has a straight 47 stock helix with red spring at 70 degrees.Bottom end and backshift feels better with the stock set up,but mid range pull felt pretty good with the 53/43.I'll get some top end numbers when i go to north bay.

blue, need more tach info, and mule results are nice too. usually the vipers are prone to a nasty overrev in stock form. red devil i pm'd ya about my set up. ski

need more information
ummm, a 43 degree finish will backshift alot faster then a 47 degree will, I can understand the bog, it sounds like its overshifting, you most likely need more tension on the preload. what do you weigh? what track do you have? is the sled bone stock? the 53/43 works very well in a stock or mild viper, but needs to be set up accordingly. Some vipers need tip rivets changed to 4.5 with it, some dont. It not only will it upshift faster resulting in increased speed but will backshift faster on and off the gas in trails. Some more information about whats happening and someone can easily help you to dial it in. BTW- the pic to the left in my avatar, is with a 53/43 helix, green spring and primary dialed in, of course on grass, but you see it works.

Well
I have not touched my secondary, bone stock. Primary has 8DN-20's and 4.5 inner and outer everything else stock. Feels good, but looking here, I was wondering if you can fill us in a little more on the starting set-up for piped viper. SLP's with 136" ripsaw track and no studs. 23/40 gearing. I spin 8900 on the button every time.
53/43 - 53/35 - what wrap - what rivets and where - green spring/red spring. What are you using for primary spring?
Trails and lakes at 1200ft.

Stock helix is not 47 degrees!
FYI,
Did some measurements on the viper stock helix (47) about 2 months ago. CMM machine said..... initial angle of 45.7 degrees, middle 44.9, and final angle 44.2 degrees. So if you get an aftermarket helix, (they are usually right on the money as far as angles) and you think putting an aftermarket helix in with a final cut of 44 degrees is going to give you more belt tension, think again. Stock helix did show some progression, about 1.5 degrees.
