So this is on my 94 dx600. This is the 95-up style correct? Was it necessary to update the jack shaft on this sled to put this clutch on ? I just got this sled and haven't done any work on it Was it possible to just bolt this clutch on? I'll have to look tomorrow at the jack shaft and see what it is. Is it easy to tell a two piece from a one piece. Anyone have a side by side comparison ? The manufacture date on the tunnel sticker is 8/94'. When were the 95 sleds built? Could this be an early 95? Or I guess it's possible someone updated these clutches somewhere along its life specially if the 94 clutches were so prone to malfunction. This is my only94 so im trying to learn what the differences are. Without pictures it's difficult for me.

No, that secondary came on that sled '' i think ''. 600 only 94-95-96. VmaX 600 models pogo, but not 500. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Really? Hmm. I've been reading that the 94's secondaries had an inboard helix and that the conversion was a typical upgrade.

not on the 94's, but the 95-96, including the 500's as well as the 800's. direct bolt on plus a few parts but no jackshaft needed. you just needed the bolt and washer and perhaps the collar, but i am sure the collar was the same, along with the shim washers used in and out.
yamaha did suggest(required) replacing both clutches as a set for whatever reasons, which would be a good thing as the 95 primaries were updated to compensate for weak spiders on the 94 clutch.
easy to tell if the jackshaft is the original 2 pc, its evident just behind the chaincase.

When I did mine I changed the jackshaft..changed from a two piece to a one piece. Now I did the swap in '95 so I'm not 100% sure if I had to change the jackshaft or I just wanted the single piece unit. Either way I did NOT change the primary and it went another 10,000kms with no issues.

Yes, that is correct.
Correct, although I believe they had windage plates covering the outside of each sheave on the Vmax's. Maybe this is a Phazer clutch or has replacement parts. So this is on my 94 dx600. This is the 95-up style correct? ...
8/94 would indicate a model year 1995 sled, as they would have started building the summer before, in time for the beginning of winter 94/95.... The manufacture date on the tunnel sticker is 8/94'. When were the 95 sleds built? Could this be an early 95?
What's your VIN#? 1995 Vmax 600DLX starts with 8CG
1994 Vmax 600DLX starts with 8CB
1994 Vmax 600DLX starts with 8CB

your first clutch picture shows a secondary from the st model(long track), no windage plates nor provisions for any. note the 8cc ink stamp. second clutch picture is off any of the short track models 95-96, assuming the bolt and washer pictured is used to secure it. didnt see the reverse cam on the phazers until way later down the road and all the early phazers had windage plates.

So, this being a 2 up 136" track I'd assume they used the same secondary as an st then. ??

the mountain models shed the plates to dissipate heat associated with off trail riding. i would feel safe in assuming the 2 up long track model shared the same theory.
the only difference between the 2 clutches is the windage plate compatability. some of those actually were plugs and they were tapped underneath. only ran across that a few times. do consider that that 95-96 reverse cam secondary is specific to that jackshaft. the 97and ups wont fit due to the splining depth, but i think the 95-96 work on the 97 ups, cant remember.

1995 600 DX & ST show windage plates on the Yamaha microfiche, 1996 600 DX & MM/ST show no windage plates. You may have a 96 clutch, or perhaps the fiche are incorrect for 1995. If you are concerned about the tuning components not being factory spec for your model, you may be able to verify the specs in the tech section here, or from a Yamaha shop manual or technical update manual, but if the sled shifts fine while riding it may not be worth messing with.
