When I surf the net I can see manuals for 500 XL up until -01 but nowhere is there a manual for 02-04. It is the same machine so that a 2001 manual will work?

should have all the info you need for your sled, they didnt change much.
yamaha dropped that model in the U.S. after 01 or 02, brought it back briefly in 04 for U.S. sales, but kept that model very alive in the european markets.
i noticed that your from sweden, may explain you having that sled.
