Forgot to mention 2008 doo 800 XP was in the mix too. I'm still running the 8 bu-10 loaded to 55 gr, hauck orange primary, green secondary, bender 51/37. I'm at 8500 right off the bat and after a long pull it slowly creeps to 8600. Top speed runs across end the lake I pulled away from these 3 sleds. This was on hard pack about 1 mile run. Then I threw in a hauck black to get my rpms to 8500. It stayed at 8500 but the assault slowly crept by me, and the others were still behind. Put the orange back in 8600 rpm and pulled away from all of them again....what gives? Next step will be green secondary from 70 to 60....and hauck orange.....btw sled is ported, bender cut air box, v force 2's, bender can. Anybody else sled run stronger at 8600?

keep your first set up and
you can try that wrap at 60 if its on bare ice or close too

I know more tip weight will bring rpm down but sled seems to like this primary combo. Took me 2 seasons to finally get 8bu10 to work. I've tried hauck orange, hauck black, max red, and WWW primary springs. Seems to like the hauck orange, but I thought it would be faster at 8500

just a quick off topic question which is faster your f7 or srx i see you have both

srx is faster. and "possibly" quicker due to the chisels. The diamond drive f7 are tricky to clutch. F7 is not clutched 100% yet. I also spend all my time setting up the srx and the wife drives the f7.......if they were both where I want them clutching wise, srx would still be faster top end...I've never had a chance to really setup my f7 yet. She likes the F7 cause its lighter and "looks fast"...I like the SRX cause its got more "muscle"...lol.....we have a lot of lakes around here and most of our riding is high speed lake runs......

If I am not mistaken 98-99 should shooting for 8350, 00-02 shooting for 8500. From what I have read (expert by no means) porting pushes up your RPM range doesn't it? Is your porting trail or race? Any one better than me wanna confirm?

It's trail ported
What does trail porting bump up the HP too ?

This just shows how Good those 800 polaris are. Even with supposedly the least HP in their class.

your powerband is 8600 thats why its faster. this is the setup i posted on here two years ago. you knock 100 rpm back, and went slower and lost to a sled you beat. its not panic time if your srx runs at 8600, especially if its ported. leave it and run it. 3:16 (yammie tony)

what you taught yourself was ALL the clutch parts need to work together in a paticular combo for your sled. The black hauck is 50/125kg and is a softer spring then the orange at 55/135kg, which means you shifted out your front clutch sooner with the black. So in your paticular set up you needed the stiffer spring to make your shift a bit slower and more drawn out to work with your engine.
This is what people dont understand when cluthing a sled, there is big,big gians in very little changes, you have to test and take notes to tell which way your going.
Having the sled trail ported doesnt necessarily need to run at a higher rpm, that all depends on who did it and what they did to it. I do them several differnt ways. Sometimes I run them at 8700rpm, instead of 8500rpm. All depends on what your doing with it, a sled run more on the lake then anywhere else would be set up to use 8700rpm for peak because of the long pulls at wot.
keep notes and little extra notations as to rpm, how you did against paticular other sleds, temps, conditions, etc. and someday when your just sitting around reading the notes a little light bulb will go on and youll understsand why and how it worked and what to do next time.

Thanks for the info guys! I've learned lots from certain guys on this site, and this is a totally different sled now from the day I bought it....I never would have thought I'd be beating these brand new 800's. My buddies all have new 800's and they are totally shocked this old triple runs the hardest....We do mostly lake riding and I'm the only one riding a yamaha out all of us.....

Justin i dynoed my 2000 srx here at c & h and i was amazed how broad a powerband these sleds have. I also was amazed how much heat in those triple pipes changes thngs. 3:16 (yammie tony)

these triples are by far the best ever made (imo) and it is awesome to get out with these old sleds and out run the new competition. Justin where in ontario do you ride? i am in the kawarthas and although i live on the lake i ride in the ganaraska forest for the most part.

Thats why i just dumped almost $2k into my sled this year, these sleds are awesome! The good old ganny! I used to ride there all the time on my bike. I miss that place!
