I've got a seat that has two areas where the seams have separated. They are short....probably 3" each. Luckily I was forced to take home ec in high school and feel comfortable sewing the cover once I pull the staples and pull the cover. BUT...will a regular hand staple gun work to staple the cover back on. Or will the job require a pneumatic gun?

you could get by with one. do a test first. regular staples are cut from flat stock and have square edges. uhpolstery staples are made from wire that has been crushed into an oval, round edges as to not cut the vinal. If you take it to an upholstery shop, they might be able to use their crazy shaped needles to sew it while it is still on the sled.

I have used a staple gun with good results in the past. As long as the vinyl is still soft and plyable. If its hard and crusty, I dont think any staple will do it justice. I use spray adhesive as well for extra insurance.
